Holiday in Armenia?

DS has suggested we go there this summer. (Would be me, DH, DS and DD both late teens). I know it's visa free from UK but can't find much information about what is like for a holiday. Anyone been there? If so did you go on an organised tour or do your own thing? If you did your own thing how easy / safe did it feel eg. hiring a car etc. Would you recommend it for a holiday and any top tips where to stay, things to do, places to eat etc? Thanks.

We went last summer. We rented a car and drive around. There was a lot to see and very affordable. I don't recommend spending much time in Yerevan but concentrate on the smaller cities. There are some incredible ziplines if your family is into those.

Thank you Nahnanananahna, how long did you go for and did you organise it yourself or go through a tour operator?

Also any particular highlights (ziplines sounds good!)

We went for 8 days. We organised everything ourselves - really no need for a tour. We mainly based ourselves in Dilijan and drove around from there. We saw a lot of churches, did three ziplines I think and ate some great food. I'd get the lonely planet and see what you fancy from that. My kids are tweens rather than late teens but we really enjoyed it.

Yell Extreme Park was probably the highlight for us - scenery was stunning. Thank and the tomatoes! My kids were too young to do whitewater rafting but there's a place you can do that in Lori province which looks amazing.
