Have holiday prices gone up a lot?

Can't remember what I paid last time we went away 3 years ago but just had a look at Tui and Jet.2 for August and they seem extortionate.

May just be me not been realistic but really thought I would get something decent for 2k but I can't. Just don't want to risk separate flights and hotel/apartment due to covid.

So am I right? Have they gone up?

We booked in November for next July.

3 weeks all inclusive in Turkey for 3 of us £4,030

Just checked and the same holiday is now £5130

I booked my holiday for august at the beginning of jan and paid £1500 for a week b&b for 4 of us in 2 rooms.

Same holiday now is £2100, so it does look like they’re rising pretty quick.

But why would you not book separately? Hotels and airlines both offer free last minute cancellations. It’s literally two emails instead of one.
They know it’ll depends on what the receiving country decide to do . Doesn’t matter who or how you book.

I'm trying to book accommodation now rather than later for this reason. Last year/this year I will only book places with free cancellation until relatively last minute.

Have a looking at loveholidays.com - booked all inclusive holiday to Tenerife for 10 nights in mid July for me, DH & 2DC for £2,000.

I booked in mid Jan for 2A and 2 DC for late July holiday to Menorca All inclusive for a week. It cost £1800. Just looked and same holiday is now £2350.

You're naive if you think every airline and accommodation provider is offering this.

Yes, prices hiked massively since last September

Keep an eye on some of the Trustpilot reviews for On the beach/Travel Republic/Expedia and others though (who I used to book with) the headline offers look fine - but totally not fine now when there are problems.

Currently sticking just with Jet 2 and Tui (via Holiday Hypermarket for cheaper deals).

Also consider that you can often find a great deal by splitting the holiday - the cost of a 21 day holiday looks prohibitive, but try searching for a 10 day followed by 11 day in the same or neighbouring resorts, often for a cheaper price. (If need be discarding the flights in the middle)

Currently doing this now - 10 day (rather than 14 day) 4 star all inclusive - but at Premier Inn prices. (Admittedly not school holidays though)

Hi my travel agent told me I was not protected through them so it put me off? They may have been robbing me off and trig. To get me to book the holiday to Spain self catering for a week for £3200!

Yes. An enormous proportion of travel companies have come within a whisker of collapse in the past 2 years, they desperately need to correct their balance sheets if they're going to survive.

It's also due to increased demand .

We've booked to go away in the October break to Lanzarote and it did feel over the odds, but then usually I buy flights and accommodation separately.This time round Jet 2 is only selling packages and the Easyjet and Ryanair flights afe extortionate.
When I bought the jet 2 holiday they showed me seats I could book ( we didn't in the end) and about half were already booked by other people.

Pricewise as well I used to book as soon as flights came out to keep the prices down, but not this time as wanted to be as certain as I could be that we'd be able to go, so that possibly bumped the cost up.

Oh and finally I have got out of the way of booking holidays so I wonder if that's part of it as well.

I’ve had to rebook flights for a holiday that’s had to be postponed twice. The flight costs have gone up considerably for us. The cost of the holiday itself has been held at the same price. Regarding hotel costs, additional cleaning costs money. They probably have loans to pay off. The customer has to pay. No way around it.

How patronising! I never said all.
But in fact most flights and accommodation still have a flexible fare Covid policy in place.
I went to Greece and the south of France last year to use up two airline vouchers. Going to Barcelona soon to use up the last as it was super cheap this year.

The costs to many holiday places have gone up. Electricity, water, oil, gas all doubling. Food prices increase. Staff costs increasing. Petrol and diesel hikes.

It means even basic self catering apartments will have to recoup some of those costs somewhere. As well as many places being forced to shut for months on and off the last 2 years.

I've been looking for flights for Easter and they're extortionate- all over the world. I was wondering whether it is because airlines are still running reduced schedules post Covid. Also lots of places that are still not opened up - most of Asia for example - so that's putting more pressure on the places that are? I've been trying separate flights and accommodation but did jab fee a quick look at Tui to see if I was missing a trick and was flabbergasted by the prices.

I'm just glad we can now travel abroad for cheaper holidays !

For the last 2 years we've paid extortionate amounts for UK holidays - both hotels & restaurants are so much dearer in UK.

Flights to Malaga with EasyJet from Gatwick are £670 for 4 for the first two weeks of August.
I’d you don’t want to take 23k of hold luggage each it goes down to £350.
You can stay here for £1.5k for the two weeks with pool, next to the sea

Is £100 a night expensive?

We found them cheaper this year actually!
We paid £1600 to go to Tenerife in 2019 as a family of 4, booked again for this year as a family or 5 costing £1300. Same rating, same board, same area etc! We are out with school holidays which obviously saves a fortune

They have gone up massively since Christmas, with easyjet holidays...we have booked 9 night AI to Ibiza with GDs.....it was 500 each ....the same holiday is now 880 each 🙄 there's 9 of us going so thats a huge difference in the final bill
