Carvoeiro or Javea?

Am hoping to go away with my sister, her DD and my DD and leaving the boys at home!

DD and DN are 11 and 13.

We want to hopefully go somewhere that isn't Butlins with sun, hopefully with nice beaches but nice places we can go and visit too.

Carvoeiro looks lovely but someone told me the sea was cold and that it was windy in the evenings so maybe Javea is a better option?

Help!

When are you going? I've been to Carvoiero in February. It was warm (high teens) in the day but chilly in the evening. Beach isn't very big but bigger ones nearby. Plenty of restaurants. Did a few day trips - Benagil caves, Silves but not sure there would be enough to do for a week (we are do-ers). And Benagil would be crazy I think in the summer. But we were told it is heaving in the summer.

Have stayed in Denia in the summer and did boat trip to Javea (presuming you mean in Spain). Nice front with probably more restaurants. I'd say there's more to do and visit around Javea. Day trip to Valencia for the aquarium is well worth it.

Thanks for your reply TTT

We would be going in July / Aug as stuck with the school holidays!

We do like lazing about on the beach but it would be good to do a couple of day trips too!

So we did Denia in early July and it was hot but not unbearable. I think the Algarve is just so busy in the summer - and Faro airport is small so I think would be hell in the summer. Alicante airport is massive and they have added a few shops and food places to the section the UK flights leave from. Not that you spend your holiday in the airport obviously Grin.

Calpe really nice for a visit too from Javea.

You could go to terra Mitica in July if you like theme parks. It’s more flamingo land than Disney but we’ve had such great days out in august over the years. So Javea from me

We have been to Javea a a few times and really enjoy it. The main beach can be a little touristy but there are lots of restaurants (especially nice towards the yachts club) and it has a nice vibe. Plus lots to do in the surrounding area, I'd definitely say get a car - drive into the mountains for day trips!

I live in Javea, yep it does get busy but there are some great beach the main one is sand but loads more rocky beaches heading towards the port which is also a lovely area, loads of bars and restaurants and a great vibe The old town is also spectacular and lovely to stroll round on a warm day or evening.

In Denia the is a great Aqua park in the sea that will keep your kids amused for an hour ( that's all they will need as it's exhausting) for €11 . You can get a boat from Javea to Denia .

Moraira is a 15 minute drive and that also has some lovely beaches and restaurants

Valencia is a wonderful city an hour away with the Oceanographic and then the Bio Parc which is the best zoo I have been to.

Benidorm is 40 mins South of Javea with 2 water parks Aqualandia ( salt water park) and Aqua Natura ( fresh water) both good . Terra mitica

( theme parc) is also there.

So much to do or do nothing and swim in the sea at the Arenal ( Javea sandy beach) . The water is lovey and warm in July right through to late November and very safe for kids

Happy to answer any questions Grin

Thank you so much - that’s really helpful :) I think I will start looking at flights to Alicante then!

There's a lovely MNer called costacoffeeplease (or something very similar) who lives in Carvoeiro and will be able to advise.

@chillidoritto
Also try flights to Valencia, they are sometimes cheaper, as not on people's radar, and it's the same distance pretty much as Alicante
