Preschooler in NYC - buggy or carrier.

Hiya.
Has anyone taken a 3 year old to nyc and if so did you take a buggy, carrier, or did they manage on foot?
We’ve been many times but never with the kids. Usually we walk everywhere whilst there but realise that the kids will get tired so we’ll get more cabs etc.
But for when we do want to walk, the older DC should be ok but imagining the 3 year old will need help.
Any previous experience or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks 😊

We've always taken a buggy but it's a pain as most places don't have lifts/access on the subway is poor

Btw if you are planning a trip with kids bear in mind the current covid vaccine rules www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-vaccines-keytonyc.page

@DonGray
Thanks, was thinking of maybe a mega light stroller that we can easily carry / fold if needed.
We’re going at the end of the year and unfortunately was booked before the new vaccine rules for kids came in…. it is a brief stop at the end of our main holiday so if we can’t get DD vaccinated and the rules are still in place we’ll unfortunately have to just fly home from there instead of having a couple of days there before leaving.

I’ve taken a toddler around NY in a light stroller (we have a YoYo) loads of times as we used to have family that lived there so visited a lot. It’s fine. If needs be I can carry it up a flight of stairs with a child in it on my own but if you have another adult with you it’ll be even easier. You can also get Uber car seat in NY. I wouldn’t use a carrier. But if you’ve got older unvaccinated kids the whole thing is unfortunately likely to be a no-go anyway. Also, are you aware mask mandates where they exist typically apply to ages 2 and up in the US and apply federally to all transportation so your 3YO will need to keep a mask on the whole transatlantic flight.

We took one of those tiny pushchairs (ours is a GB pockit) which it could be hand luggage on the plane and was easy to carry up and down the subway stairs.

I think if you use a carrier frequently at home still then you probably would manage but I couldn’t carry a 3 year old on and off all day, and I find the buggy a useful base to stash things in rather than being a packhorse 🥵

Sounds like a buggy will be the sensible option.

I’m not too concerned about 3 year old wearing a mask if he has to - he’s generally happy to do so when need be.

Yes it’s DD not being vaccinated that is likely to be the biggest issue. We’ll just have to see what happens between now and then I suppose and be prepared to cancel if need be.
