We will be spending a week in Montana, but would like to go for two weeks - does any body have any suggestions for the second week please? DC's will be 10 and 8.

take an internal flight down to Las Vegas and go see the Grand Canyon and Death Valley.

New Mexico is incredibly beautiful and the people on a whole are lovely. Or you could go across to Seattle and even up to Vancouver from there.

Thanks for the suggestions. More tempted by Seattle than Vegas (snob!), but then again - the Grand Canyon..............

If you go to the Grand Canyon (which is amazing) go to the Painted Desert as well as it is even more incredible. Personally I hate Vegas but there you go! You could probably find somewhere to stay cheaply though and use it as a base. There is also the Hoover Dam, and some National Parks if you cross to California.

It depends on the time of year as well. Seattle has weather similar to here so don't go in Feb! It does have a really good Science Museum though. I was most taken with the blind mole rats.

There are news stands on a lot of streets and you can pick up a free magazine which gives you discounts at motels so could stay somewhere different each night if you wanted. Can't remember the name of the mag but you could put out a shout for Califrau as she probably knows.

What sort of things do you like?. Look at neighbouring states and Canada, you're not far from the Canadian border either.

How about spending some time visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming? (one of its neighbouring states).

What time of year are you intending to visit Montana?.

Have you thought of spending time at a dude ranch?

Vegas I think is one of those places you just have to see! We went in Aug and the best part for me was to be able to treat ourselves to utter luxury or a couple of nights! We had the most amazing luxurious suite in the Ventian, the whole building is to die for, the cost, the same price per night I have paid in the UK for two travelodge rooms as there are 5 of us! The Grand Canyon is truly a must see, we had a fab time, we stayed on route 66 in Williams, in a former bordello called the Red Garter, the best host you could wish for, opposite is the depot for the Grand Canyon train, two hour journey, with onboard entertainment, fantastic! I could go on!

Don't know if you are still looking at this thread but I agree with comments re Vegas and the Grand Canyon (ie Vegas worth a look for a couple of days & Grand Canyon is amazing).

Yellowstone & Wyoming are great but might be a bit similar to Montana. It depends what you are looking for - outdoorsy stuff, city, beach, shopping etc. Also time of year may affect wherr you go.

Chicago is lovely
