Hi.

Would anybody have any first hand recommendations of a decent hotel or apartment in Alghero that would be good with 2 kids under 5 - ideally within walking distance of restaurants and the beach?

We stayed at an hotel that would not be suitable for you,
but on another matter don't bother with the "Neptune's Grotto" trip - a complete ripoff.

Was Neptune's Grotto rubbish? Or just expensive? We're going to Alghero in a few months, so wondering what we should be aiming to experience

Both ! But it was a few years ago, so might have changed.
You pay for the boat to take you there, then the boat sits in a queue before you can disembark.
Queue again to buy tickets for the grotto.
The "guides" inside just yell at people to keep moving, no explanations given by them , & no literature or signs about what you are seeing.
You queue again to await the arrival of your boat.

The place was packed, & it wasn't high season. The whole episode was chaotic & frustrating.
Do check before booking, it might be better now.

Thank you. I'm there during high season, but for 10 days. I'll try and ask around to see if anyone there has been recently, then decide from there. Is there anything you'd recommend in the area?
