Easter in Hamburg/Luneberg, Germany - what's open?

We've planned to visit Hamburg/Luneberg just before Easter. Just gone to book everything and it looks like we might have to go a few days later, so hit over Easter.

Covid aside, will it be like the UK, limited shop and museum opening but restaurants open as normal? Or will everything be open?

It depends. In general Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are Bank Holidays where all shops are closed. Saturday is a normal day for shopping.

Good Friday is a Bank Holiday also affecting opening times for all entertainment venues, so muesums, theatre, cinema, bowling, restaurants etc. In the past, everything was shut. It may now depends on the state so you need to check Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein separately.

Easter Sunday and Monday - restaurants should be open but especially on Easter Sunday lots may only offer reservations as they may have reduced staff and a set menu. Museums can be open, you need to check each individual.

Mondays in general is a day where nearly all museums under public ownership are closed. I would assume that also includes Easter Monday. Privately owned one can do what they like.

We are in Hamburg in February and found that some are now closing Monday and Tuesday while others open all week. It's a minefield but in general the websites are good and all offer an English language site as well.

The first year I was over Easter here in England I was astonished that everything was open. Defintiely not as I was used to.

Oh, Central Hamburg may be more open with restaurants than the tiny Lüneburg.
