Beach Holiday in Europe in August without really hot weather

Hi,

Can anyone recommend somewhere to go in Europe (not UK) in August for a beach holiday with temperatures at about 25 degrees maximum? We are two adults and two children ages 7 and 4.
We were hoping to go to Lanzarote or Tenerife at Easter but it looks like that won't happen now so I need to find somewhere for August

What about the Italian Lakes? Northern Italian and the kids will love the ice cream. There is nothing like it in the world. We went to Riva and it had a young vibe and a beach on the lake.

Oh I just googled summer temperatures for northern Italy and they are lower than I thought @Franklin12. I was there in June years ago and it was really hot but that must have been unusual. Thanks, that's a great suggestion!

Warning there was very high temps in Aug in the lakes last year so you might get unlucky. We canned our trip due to COVID so we're miserably checking the temps when we should have been there and it was mid to high thirties!!!

QuizzicalEyebrows · 18/01/2022 11:55

Austria or Bavarian lakes

Yika · 18/01/2022 11:59

Brittany?
Denmark?

I knew there was a reason why I thought Italy would be too hot in August !

@QuizzicalEyebrows @Yika Thanks for those ideas. Any suggestions for where I could start researching those options? I'm really looking for a relaxed easy holiday option, with gentle sun, ideally where we can relax on a sun lounger with one eye on a book and one eye on the children; they can splash around with other children their own age and we don't have to worry about them out in strong sun they aren't used to.

Zeeland in the Netherlands is lovely. Big sandy beaches. Lots of nice little towns. Boat trips. Seal watching. Or the north sea coast around Schevingen - lots of sunloungers and beach bars. Italian lakes were hot when we were there last summer.

The Vendee or Brittany. Look at Eurocamp.

NYnewstart · 18/01/2022 12:30

Normandy?

scaredsadandstuck · 18/01/2022 12:32

Northern France? Loads of types of accommodation options from Eurocamp sites which tend to have great pool complexes, to gites/villas etc. Check out Eurocamp, Canvas etc. We found those holidays pretty good when our kids were that sort of age.

If you go to the vender then make sure you have a day or two out here. It’s absolutely amazing.

We went to Northern France in July a few years ago specifically to avoid excessive heat and it was mid 30s. So no guarantees there for sure. I've been on the Baltic coast of Germany and in beachy areas in Sweden, Denmark and the Austrian Alps/lakes in July and all were lovely and very liveable with heat wise. And I hate anything over 20, 22 degrees. Rugen in Germany was particularly nice and not ruinously expensive compared to the Scandinavian options

I worked at the Atlantique campsite near-ish Quimper for a summer many years ago & I remember is being warm but not too hot. Great outdoor pool & best access too

ChimChimeny · 18/01/2022 12:57

Beach access

Berthatydfil · 18/01/2022 12:58

The Vendee

Ifailed · 18/01/2022 13:01

Ireland. Guarantee it'll rain as well.

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/01/2022 13:02

Channel Islands? Jersey has lovely beaches.

emmathedilemma · 18/01/2022 13:22

West coast of Scotland has some lovely beaches!

applestamper · 18/01/2022 13:41

@Ifailed That's where we are all year round! And we were lucky enough last year to have two of the heatwave weeks off work and we had such a lovely time on the beach. That's why I want to book a beach holiday this year, somewhere we aren't pinning our hopes on an Irish heatwave, but somewhere cool enough for my Irish sensibilities!

Ils de Ré on the West coast of France will suit your needs

BelgianWaffles · 18/01/2022 13:45

Brittany, Vendée or île de Ré - so many great campsites!

EileenGC · 18/01/2022 13:49

Northern Spain or Portugal? You will struggle to find a resort like they have on the islands or Med coast, it’s more rural / self catering oriented. The water is a bit colder as it’s Biscay Bay or Atlantic but some people prefer that.

It’s normally mild weather but like everywhere in Europe, you might just get unlucky and be there during that one hot week of the summer. Even in the UK there is a heatwave or two each summer… unpredictable.

Cookerhood · 18/01/2022 13:50

We did the Vendee when the kids were small, great for families. Also Parc des Alicourts, which while not on the sea, it is on a big lake in the Loire.

Flockameanie · 18/01/2022 13:51

Poland? Apparently there’s lovely coast line near Gdańsk… Not sure what it’s actually like for a beach holiday though…
