Thinking of going to Slovenia this Easter. Has anybody been? what will the weather be like? where should we base ourselves? We will probably rent a car? what are the current restrictions? we are 2 adults and 2 children over 10. What should we see. Thank you

The Vrsic pass is closed until May every year because of heavy snowfall. That said, the ski season is pretty much coming to an end there by Easter so it’s a “transitional” time of year to visit with snow still on the peaks but pretty much thawed in the towns and lakes. You may find winter activities have closed but summer activities not yet open.

Definitely hire a car and travel around though. A few nights in Ljubljana (no car needed), then head out to Postojna area to see the caves and Predjama Castle, then onto the coast and then up to Kranjska Gora (where the Vrsic pass comes in), then finishing up in Bled. Driving is very easy and the roads not busy. Distances are not large between places. Absolutely beautiful place.

Thank you for the reply.

Can we base ourselves in Ljubljana and drive to the other places from there? or should we have a few days in Ljubljana and a few days somewhere else?

Will we miss a lot with the Vrsic pass clsosed? can we still see most of the places.?

We always wanted to go to Slovenia and it seems like a good place to go in Easter as it is only 2 hours flight and they seem more relaxed with restrictions only requiring a covid test or proof of vaccination.

We were also thinking of going to Italy but it seems very complicated at the moment. The other option is the highlands in Scotland.

The caves and castle and Bled are all very doable as day trips from Ljubljana, however the main tourist streets are traffic free so chose your accommodation so it definitely has car access and parking.

There were several trips to these places booking through the Tourist information centre too so theoretically you could do it without a car.

The coast and the Triglav park are further - probably a three to four hour round trip so depends how much you are prepared to travel in one day.

I’d do Lake Bohinj rather than Lake Bled - beautiful and less touristy. But as with anywhere Alpine, Easter is a bit of a tricky time to go.

Been at Easter a few times - as has been said a bit of a strange time - snow melting but still visible, but spring flowers not yet arrived
One Easter trip we had lots of rain, others dry but not alot to do as such

Also yes to Lake Bohinji rathr than Bled.
