October half term

I'm slightly stunned at the price of flights in particular for October half term travel.
I've got a child starting school in September and we were hoping to all get away in October.
How does everyone afford it? Flights for the four of us alone to Tenerife are coming out at £3k from Heathrow!
What does everyone else do to keep costs lower?
Any help gratefully received!

I’ve managed to get a package deal so flights, transfer, travel insurance and b&b at a hotel for £1500 for 4 of us. 3 of us are now adults so needing 2 rooms, last week of the summer holidays to Corfu.

I couldn’t afford £3k for flights alone. That seems mad. The problem with October holidays is as it’s only a week you can’t play around with dates to get a better deal and airlines seem to cash in on that.

If you want to go the Canaries then yes, a package will be the cheapest way to travel. If you're flexible on destination then you may be able to find some good value flights, but the Canaries and Cyprus are still summer temps in Oct, so they're really popular!

We’ve done both the Canaries and Cyprus in the October half term. Both great temps at that time of year.

We found the Canaries to be cheaper flight wise and to keep the flight costs lower, we normally go on the Thursday before half term as our kids school always has an Inset day on the Friday. This means they only miss 1 day of school but we save hundreds in flight costs.
