Where to go with DH on a child-free trip?

DH and I have some air miles to use this year. It will be a trip for just the two of us, as the children will stay at home with grandparents.

To make the most of our tickets, it needs to be outside of Europe. Would prefer a sight-seeing holiday instead of just a beach. Any suggestions? We have been to NYC and some cities in the Eastern US before, so looking for somewhere new.

How many days do you want to go for? And what time of year?

If you just want to make it a short trip - how about Toronto? It’s only 7/8 hours flight, East Coast so only 5 hours time difference and would be a great city break for a few nights. If you have a bit longer to spare - how about West Coast….San Fran, Vancouver, Seattle? Or if you have a good week or so and don’t mind the long journey time/jetlag then Tokyo is probably my favourite city. Or you could try Singapore. More of a commitment though! And Covid much more restrictive with travel to Japan or Singapore than US/Canada currently.

Do you mean Avios? Which airline? They usually have a search facility. You simply won’t get flights to some destinations. Ever. We always work from their web sites which, if BA, gives availability of outboard and inbound flights. We search for long haul business. We then get a travel company such as Audley to sort out the holiday or we book ourselves. USA destinations we’ve used have been LA, SF, San Diego, Las Vegas, Washington and Philadelphia. We’ve also managed Tokyo, Bangalore and Chennai, Rio, Buenos Aires and Santiago in Latin America. You have to be really lucky to get some of these. BA no longer fly direct to BA for example so there’s fewer flights! So who you fly with should be the first place you look. However, be adventurous! Going somewhere different is fantastic!

It depends how long you want to be away for, but I'd opt for Vancouver if you've only got a short period as you could also go up to Whistler.

Both great places to visit, lots to see, amazing food, friendly locals

A short time away, you could look at South Africa or Kenya. Little time difference. Then do a safari.

Or Nova Scotia of Iceland.

Singapore and Malaysia

Cape Town's great for long-haul but short-time as there's no time difference and the flights are often overnight both ways. Do-able even for a long weekend if the flights aren't costing you much.

The city itself is beautiful, easy to visit the wine-lands nearby, the coastline along into the Garden Route is spectacular.

I think that’s a very good suggestion. SA is ok to visit all year round and so many options.

More information needed OP. What type of holiday would you like? How long for? Do you want a hot destination or more wintery? How many Avios do you have?
