Flights to New York!

Am looking at the possibility of going in October - wondering where to start with looking at flights/ when to book.
Hoping to stay with a friend so probably won't need accommodation too.
Any tips and pointers welcome - thank you 😊

Now is the time to book. Fares rarely drop below January sales level. Make sure you have insurance in place as soon as you start spending money as the extra protection offered by some airlines currently may stop before October.

Book directly on an airlines website, I would avoid agents, particularly online agents for flight only. I have seen many agents take a percentage of a full refund when a flight was cancelled and should have been refunded in full or refuse to change something changeable. Make sure you buy a ticket with baggage if you want to check some, adding it to a hand baggage only ticket makes it more expensive than buying a baggage inclusive ticket.

OP, I just looked on ba.com.
Picked wednesday 12 oct , return 7 days later…
£466 return gatwick to JFK in premium economy.

BA are offering some exceptional deals right now. I mean seriously good!! I've been flying to NYC for the past 25 years and some of their prices right now are less than what I paid 25 years ago!!

Check on Skyscanner and also have a look at Norwegian Airways

oldwrinklyhands · 09/01/2022 18:51

We booked this time last year, to fly in the following Oct (ended up going in Nov) very good deals through BA. We paid £440 pp, that included return flights (from Heathrow) and 5 nights in Midtown Hilton.

Hello cats home

Norwegian reinvented themselves as a short haul carrier, they no longer fly to the USA.

Is it because of the ban on unvaccinated children in indoor venues? Must be hitting the number of people booking. We are meant to be going April so probably have to cancel. I would delay until October but that's outside their current protection window which ends 31 august.

La Compagnie used to do good fares if you don't mind flying to Newark instead of JFK. Not sure whether their still running. admittedly

I doubt it. More that the US only opened up to travel relatively recently, Omicron has been increasing and very few people are travelling on business. Flights to NYC are usually very business heavy so that's having a significant impact.

BoodleBug51 · 09/01/2022 20:20

We booked through BA. We got the flights and hotel for the same money that the hotel alone would have cost booking direct.
