Holidays
Amsterdam v Rotterdam

Hi. We have some Eurostar tickets to use up. I’ve not been to either Amsterdam or Rotterdam. We’re a family of four with DD 15 and DS 17. Rotterdam accommodation is way cheaper - is it worth a visit for a city break or is Amsterdam way preferable?

Yes.
Rotterdam is an interesting city, Delft and Dordrecht nearby and The Hague not too far away. Harbour area lovely for food, Maritime and photography museum, unusual Cube houses. Easy to get around by tram or the Metro. Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague has 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' painting by Vermeer and many other interesting artworks.
I go there for the film festival (when it happens) and have always enjoyed it.

Leiden in NL is really nice - like Amsterdam in miniature - and you could easily do a day trip to either Rotterdam, or Amsterdam, or the seaside. It has a windmill, canal trips, botanical gardens. It was where they set off with the Mayflower for the new world.
