Holidays
Spain - current travel
monkeyblonde · 04/01/2022 16:31
We booked a holiday to Spain for February half term a while ago, obviously the situation has changed/is changing considerably.
Has anyone travelled there recently? I don't feel comfortable about making my children wear masks but am wondering how strict things are? We are planning to go to Valencia if that makes any difference?

I live in Spain. All visiting Brits including children over 5 must be fully vaccinated
Only non vaccinated Spanish residents can enter Spain
Everyone over the age of 6 must wear a mask indoors and out (unless on a beach in the mountains etc)
You will be fined in the spot for breaches

I went in October and my DD is there at the minute. The Spanish are very strict on mask wearing. If you don't want to/can't wear one, don't go.

Thanks for the feedback. I wear a mask all day every day (work in a school) so I am used to it - but my children have never had cause to wear one and a holiday doesn't really feel like the right circumstance to start. I think we will have to cancel (again ).

Unless it has changed they won't be allowed in unvaccinated, so mask wearing us irrelevant at this point

You would be better getting your guidance from the official government website- assuming your travelling from the UK
MY DD went and her grandparents are there now- no issues at all with travelling

I'm not sure this is true. The guidance on vaccination only applies to over 12s?

Yes, I am getting the official guidance from there - I was more after a steer on whether it is a good time for an enjoyable holiday. Putting my children in masks to relax just doesn't sit right.

At present, It's fully vaccinated for all over 12s - but as we (Spain) are now vaccinating 8 and over, and soon (might have already started) the over 5s it could well change to be vaccine passports for that age group too.
Masks everywhere indoors, and outdoors unless on beach, mountains etc as long as you can socially distance.
You can walk with your family without masks again as long as you are 1.5m apart which isn't always easy with little kids!
It's very strict, but we live here and just use common sense. We are lucky to live in a fairly quiet place and my children are all out playing with friends and just pull their masks up when they know they are close. If riding their bikes, running etc they just pull them down, and pull back up when needed. So used to wearing them now it's just another everyday accessory for them - sadly!
