South of France with a 4 year old

Hi all,

I'm breaking the drepression of another covid Christmas by looking at Summer holidays. We really fancy the south of France in particular Provence. We like the idea of pretty much guaranteed good weather but things to do eg cycling/exploring as well. Has anyone travelled here with a child this age? We've check maps and to do it on the channel tunnel would be about 15 hours. We are wondering whether to just suck it up and drive, ferry to somewhere on the south coast or train. Also wondering if a trip to a certain mouse and his friends in Paris would be going too far out of the way and if anyone's done this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated and open to other suggestions for destinations. TIA xx

I would definitely break it up....we didn't go quite so far when dc that age (saumer) but know others who did and breaking near Paris a great idea...
We started to go further south for the weather but got the train.....which is a much easier way to travel as the roads south can be really busy in the summer...
Failing that work out your timings and stop 3ish stay somewhere with a pool... we stopped rouen once so little city break...dc still remember the patisserie as the best ever had!

Thanks. I'm not sure if we're banned from France but confident we won't be by June.

It is a tossup whether we go by train which is a comfier way to travel or by car and have the freedom to explore and can take bikes etc. This is the biggest thing I'm trying to get clear in my head tbh

Hi! I drove to France when my DS was about 3. Our destination was St Raphael on the Provence coast. We took the dover-Calais ferry. We stopped off at a eurocamp for two nights on the way. You definitely want to break the journey up. It worked well to have a longer stay over. Driving in France is totally different to here, less traffic, better service stations and a better standard of driving.
