Nice hotel around brighton (up to an hour away)

DH and I have been together 10 years on friday (aaaaahhh) and have a 'nasty' (well excited) feeling he may have bought me something despite the 'no pressie' discussion (we don't normally do presents even for wedding anniversaries). Given its almost christmas we won't be able to get a babysitter (or to be hoenst have the inclination) to go out and celebrate on the day itself so I thought I'd book a night away in the future.

So, it needs to be no more than an hour from the brighton area as dd will need to be looked after by my parents, like hotel with nice food, ideally in a nice village/town where we can bimble a bit. Money no object (within reason !). The George in Rye looked perfect but appear to be booked out on saturdays all year.

The Spread Eagle is lovely. Small spa. Nice town to bimble about in. Great food too.

41 miles, 58 minutes according to AA from Brighton.

It's a lovely anniversary place (my friend proposed to his girlfriend there). Big log fires, sinky sofas etc.

oooh thanks bluesky - Will bear that one in mind for another occasion. I did find somewhere else in rye called the white vine house which looks lovely so we are going there. Will defnitely look at the midhurst one - thanks.
