Quarantine at Hotel on return to the UK

After the fiasco of people being caught in South Africa, having flights cancelled and then finding they are now on a red list with mandatory quarantine on return to the UK does anyone think that if they scrap the hotel quarantine for self islolation at home for fully jabbed people the 'red list' will be cancelled completely?

Reason I am asking is that I am due to go to SA end of Feb 22. I can self isolate and take tests as required but wouldnt SA still effectively be closed because travel insurance wouldnt be valid?

Well, according to this:

So hopefully!

Thanks for responding. My concern is that if the quarantine is cancelled and there is still a red list I won’t be able to get travel insurance.

I'm in the same boat but with flights booked much sooner. I haven't yet looked into if it actually works, but a colleague has recommended something called nomad insurance which insures travelers all over the world. She's used it to travel to red list countries, and had to use it. The specific company was I think called safety wings I think (I need to check the details as when I spoke to her I wasn't even considering going)

I hear that the quarantine at hotels will be scrapped in the next few weeks for red list countries. It would be cheaper to have a guard outside your house! I understand from my travel agent that there will only be two groups, red and green. If SA is on the red list then you wont easily be able to get insurance. If its on green then the FO advice to change.

My DH has some underlying health conditons so I dont think the insurance would work for us. Thank you anyway for suggesting.

If we dont go to SA we will go somewhere else. I am hoping though that the quarantine is cancelled for double/treble jabbed people. The unvaccinated people I am not so concerned about. They have made their decision.
