Gift ideas for friends going on a cruise

Very close friends (late 60's) are going on an extended cruising holiday to the Caribbean next year. I'd like to get them something for Christmas so any gift ideas appreciated.

Have some flowers or a celebration package ordered to their cabin. I know P&O do them.

@Hairyfriend

Masks and lateral flow tests?

I second Toddlerteaplease. If you know their cruise line and dates there is a choice of gifts you can arrange for their cabin. I've done this for my in laws several times, the cruise lines have always been very helpful. It is however always really over priced.
Other ideas might be personalized lanyards for their room keys/dining passes or fancy luggage tags or maybe a nice photo frame?
I'm going to watch this thread, my in-laws take a cruise every year for the week that has their anniversary and MIL birthday. Always need fresh inspiration.

Does it really have to be cruise related?

Honestly. Something along the lines of what you’d normally get them is the way to go.

I cruise and I see people with cruise related bits and pieces about them or on their luggage (my sister in law may even by them for herself) and in the nicest possible way it’s all a bit over the top looking.

Leather luggage tags?

unidentia · 02/12/2021 06:05

I'd concentrate on the destinations - e..g a film or novel set in that country or some rum and say its to get them excited for their cruise next year.

What has the cruise got to do with anything?

I am going to Portugal in the spring but I am not expecting Santa to bring me a tin of sardines.

Big pegs you use to peg towels to sunloungers are really handy for a cruise, they are available on Amazon.
A lanyard for their key cards, blingy, diamanté ones are popular with the ladies.
Or my most useful thing, a tiny cross the body bag to carry my key card pass and a lip salve.

Some great ideas- thankyou. I've also since thought of fold up binoculars, a sarong, leather flip flops.

@WeeTattieBogle and @percythewitch- It doesn't HAVE to be cruise related, I was just after ideas and things that might be handy on their cruise! They leave within days of Christmas and away for 5 weeks, so thought there might be useful things I hadn't thought of. If you have non-cruise suggestions, please let me know.

That makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Binoculars are a great gift, good for dolphin spotting.

WeeTattieBogle · 03/12/2021 14:52

If they would be inclined to swim in the Caribbean then a small bag they could put their phone and valuables in that they could use in the water could be an idea. Or how about one of those bags that are pretty indestructible, cards can’t be read through them and straps can’t be cut - it takes away the worry of pickpockets and the likes. Ok they don’t look that great but they are very handy.

TizerorFizz · 03/12/2021 21:35

Decent binoculars - yes. Cheap rubbish ones - don’t bother! Luggage tags, Longchamp Le Pliage bag. Passport covers. Pouch for masks. Expensive sun tan cream for face.

Chewbecca · 04/12/2021 21:12

If they’re on a posh line, binoculars will be in the room already.

Books? Something to wear on the plane?

I hate the sparkly lanyards!

My aunt cruises, and one year I got her a wool wrap for Christmas. She said it was the most useful item she brought with her, and uses it for every trip, both on plane and ship.
