Anyone know Gran Canaria for taxi and car hire

Very excited all going well will be going to Gran Canaria over New Years!

Wondering if anyone knows Gran Canaria and if it's worth hiring a car or are local taxis better?

Car hire for 7 days in Gran Canaria is over £500 for a week, seems rather high.

Does anyone know if taxi's are expensive, just googled an airport transfer from the airport to Salobre Hotel Resort and it's around 100 euros for 40km (30 mins journey)

Depends where you're staying and what you want to do while you're there OP. We rented a car, because the island is actually quite big and we wanted to explore. We went out every day and covered quite a bit of the island and so a hire car was definitely worth it for us. If all you want to do is go to the beach though and do the camel safari, for instance, then you could probably manage with taxis.

Try Cicar car hire. They are only in the Canary Islands, they get excellent Which reviews. We used them and couldn’t have been more pleased. We paid £180 for a small SUV crossover for a week over Christmas 2019. Fully insured so they don’t even check the car on the way back, and refund you on the spot for any remaining fuel.
