Changing passport information between booking and flying

I have a voucher for KLM ( for a flight cancelled by Covid).
I was planning on using it to book flights to Iceland sometime in the spring- however I’ve just realised my passport is due for renewal in April.

Has anybody got any experience of changing passport information after the booking has been made. Is this something I can do?
Thanks in advance!

I thought you provided passport info at a later date. Or am I thinking of package holidays

Have you checked your 'valid from' date on your passport as your expiry date will be 10 years from that date (in the past extra months could be added on and they are no longer valid). Your passport may need to be renewed sooner than you think

Thank you- I got it in April 2012, and have never added any months on to it. I’ve sent a message to KLM just to check.
I do think people must loose passports all the time between booking and flying, but I’m still a bit anxious to take the chance!

I doubt you needed to provide your passport number when you booked the original flights? 99% of airlines only ask for full name, and perhaps date of birth.

You fill in passport details after, normally at check in. You can always edit them under ‘Update my API details’ or similar. I have two passports and one ID card and use them all for travel, so sometimes I’ll change the one I’m travelling on between booking and flying. Never had a problem.

You don’t actually have to give passport details in advance at all sometimes, if you just show up at the airport and give the passport at the check in counter they’ll print a boarding pass for you.

They presumably have a “manage my flight” section with this booking. You pig in your code and then change or add info. Change it when you get the new passport. It should be straightforward!

Thanks to everybody who replied to this thread. It was a lot easier to get in touch with KLM than I anticipated- rather than hours on the phone they have a 24 hour WhatsApp/ FB messenger feature, and you were all right- I don’t need to supply my PP info at booking 🙂. Iceland here I come!

We went to Iceland in September. Weather was very iffy at times but we loved it!
