50th break advice

Am really wanting to have an amazing 50th mini break with dh next August.
But don't know where to start so please can you give some recommendations?
It would be for about 4 nights, always fancied New York or somewhere exotic!

If you didn't want very long flights and jet lag, how about Madeira? Only four hours away.
It's very lovely, with striking scenery. Hire a car and explore. It's a lot warmer than here, Funchal is attractive and quite lively for restaurants, bars etc.
I can recommend the Cliff Bay Hotel, it's five star with great views of Funchal Bay and lovely facilities. Just right for pushing the boat out. About 20 minutes walk into the centre of town, but also several nearer options. I'd go back in a flash!

I’d do NYC if you’ve not been before. Great excuse to go and perfect for short trip.
I love Charleston SC too and it’s like nothing we have here.

To be honest it doesn’t matter where you go. Just book the nicest suite in the lushest hotel you can afford that’s got a roof terrace and pool!

What sort of things do you enjoy doing?
New York would be fabulous but you'd spend a lot of your short break in the air.
