December city break

AvonCallingBarksdale · 03/11/2021 09:11

We were planning to go to the Netherlands for a city break just after Xmas, - me, DH (both fully jabbed), DS (17 and one jab) and DD (14 and one jab) - but it looks like we can't travel there as DS and DD have only had one jab. Any suggestions on where we could go for a 4-day abroad city break, please? We've done Paris, Berlin, C'hagen, Verona, Venice, so somewhere different. I liked the idea of Reykjavik (I've been and love it), but unfortunately, it's DS that is the "problem". He's not old enough to have been double-jabbed, but too old to not be counted as an "adult".
Any suggestions? Thanks

Spain or Portugal seem to be the easiest places with DC at the moment and from your list you haven't done a city break in either, which is great, because you have plenty of good choices. My DC loved Lisbon and Valencia and we're going to Malaga this winter. Barcelona and Seville would also work. What I love about going to Spain/Portugal in winter is that it can be bright and sunny and is usually several degrees warmer than at home - plus the food and drink is fabulous. If that doesn't appeal, then what about Munich or Krakow, if you fancy somewhere cold and festive?

Spain/Portugal sound fab - we have done the Algarve and Madrid/Barcelona, but I've always fancied Lisbon/Valencia. Thanks for the ideas I'll have a look :)

Seville. We've travelled loads including Iceland, and this was surprisingly one of my most favourite places. We spent New Year's Day 2020 there sat in the park drinking wine. Stayed in a central apartment by the cathedral with a roof top terrace.
Glorious climate. Beautiful city. Can't praise it enough.

Brussels! Great in December.

Brussels and Seville - great, hadn't thought of either of those, thank you. I had foolishly thought that we were all sufficiently vaccinated, but, ironically it doesn't seem to matter whether DD has been or not due to her age, but with DS he just misses out on having the second jab as you need to be 17 and 9 months, so he inadvertently is the "issue" at the moment Grin

I’m pretty sure you can go to Denmark with just one vaccination. Billund is lovely (and it’s the home of Lalandia and the Lego house!)

Thanks - the more research I do the fewer places are available Sad. First world probs and all that but seems unfair that someone in DS school year who is a few months older is good to travel but DS isn’t. I get there needs to get a cutoff point but even so Confused

Porto is great

I haven’t looked at the covid restrictions, but I’ve had great winter breaks to Bruges, Tallinn, Riga, Budapest, Berlin, Vienna, Helsinki, Tromso, Stockholm. Any of those might be worth looking into.

In fact Budapest might be an option I know as for Hungary you need a PCR test not a vaccine certificate (if you’re ok to do the PCRs).
