I'm stupidly excited about this holiday

My Mum does a lot of great holidays to all sorts of amazing places, I'm always envious but most of them are by boat so I wouldn't go on them myself as I get desperately seasick. We were talking at lunch today about one that she was considering booking and it sounded fascinating. Then she phoned me after she got home and said that since this one wasn't by ship she has booked for me to go too. It's not for nearly two years but I have already texted DH to make sure he knows not to travel for work during that time because I will be GONE.

We'll be going to Jordan, Oman, Bhutan and Uzbekistan. I have been fascinated by Petra in Jordan for ages and I've wanted to see Bhutan since I was a child and one of my teachers married a Bhutanese man and moved there and came in to school to tell us about it when she came home to visit.

Sounds fan. That's really something to look forward to.

Mum does have great taste in holidays. The plan was that she and Dad would go all over the world after he retired, but he was diagnosed with kidney failure just before he retired so they only travelled short-haul to places that he could get dialysis after that. Since Dad died Mum has been to all the places that he wanted to go, plus some that he wouldn't have liked at all. She's 80 this year and still intrepid.

Incredible trip! Some of my bucket list destinations that I'd love to do with my mum one day. Half the fun is in the build up, so enjoy this time as much as the trip :)

She's been to really remote places, like Antarctica, the Easter Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Tierra del Fuego, Colombia, Peru. She's even been to Pitcairn Island (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame). She's had a few holidays cancelled because of Covid, including a cruise up the East coast of Russia that she was really looking forward to and a river cruise up the Brahmaputra river. So now she's booking tons of holidays so that she can get them in 'before she's too old to travel'.

Just for comparison, my Dad died nine years ago since when Mum has been everywhere. In that time I have left the country twice, both times to go back to the part of London where I used to live for a long weekend. I am the opposite of intrepid.

Wow! Can I carry your suitcases and come along as a type of assistant/maid/general dogsbody?! 😁
