New rules for entering Portugal from UK

Is this true?

“However, the Portuguese Government has reportedly announced that certificates issued by other countries will be accepted for entry with the UK Covid certificate added from October 4.
From October 4, all UK tourists who have been double-vaccinated with an EU approved vaccination will reportedly be allowed into Portugal without taking a pre departure test.
Every passenger who has been fully vaccinated with the approved vaccines of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson will be accepted.

British tourists must be able to show their NHS vaccination certificate to enter Portugal but from October 4 will no longer have to have an EU Covid passport or do a pre-departure test according to SchengenVisaInfo.”

Flying tomorrow and DHs pcr has not come back yet - done yesterday at 10am

Sooo stressful

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/10/2021 20:05

Oh no @Carriemac! Could you do an antigen test at the airport if required?

Wretchedhive · 08/10/2021 23:59

Clarification from gov.uk:

Entering mainland Portugal
Before you travel to mainland Portugal
If you have an NHS COVID Pass or an EU digital COVID vaccination certificate showing you have been fully vaccinated with an EU approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before you travel, or an EU COVID recovery certificate showing you have recovered from COVID-19 no less than 11 days and no more than 180 days of when you are due to travel:

you do not need to have a COVID-19 test to enter Portugal. Be prepared to show a digital or paper copy of your COVID vaccination or recovery certificate when you check-in for your flight, and
complete an online passenger locator card

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/10/2021 01:03

Gah, just hours after I caved and paid for tests, typical!

Campervan69 · 09/10/2021 10:55

Save them and use them another time.

Oblomov21 · 09/10/2021 17:08

In Portugal now. You do need a test to fly. We had a man turned away at boarding. A Ryanair flight, Because he hadn't had a test. How he'd got through security was a question we were all asking?!

Longdistance · 09/10/2021 21:54

How bloody confusing. There’s so much misinformation Angry

Molly499 · 10/10/2021 03:32

No test is needed, very good instructions here - www.jet2.com/en/flights/safe-travel/travel-requirements/mainland-portugal

Wretchedhive · 10/10/2021 08:46

Although airlines should be consistent, wondering if some are enforcing different rules, judging by what Oblomov21 has reported about recent Ryanair flight?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/10/2021 15:29

When did you travel @Oblomov21? The FCO only updated it's guidance for Portugal to say no test required late on Friday afternoon.

Oblomov21 · 10/10/2021 15:51

Friday morning.

Cal12345 · 10/10/2021 17:05

We are going Portugal sat 23rd and ive just cancelled my pre departure tests for us adults but kept them for the kids as they are not vaccinated. FCO def says nhs Covid pass is all that is needed.. ?

Longdistance · 10/10/2021 18:00

@Cal12345 we’re going on the 24th. So looking forward to it 🌞
Dd1 is vaccinated, but NHS isn’t up to date with under 16’s yet. So she’s the only one needing it, dd2 is 10, so no test needed.

Cal12345 · 10/10/2021 18:06

I’m so stressed about it all.. my kids are 14 and 12 so both need per departure tests. I’ve just found out my sons passport will only have 4months and a bit on it (from issue date) when we go… praying we don’t get turned away at Manchester… we are flying with Ryan air… Portugal says 3 months but Ryan air says 6 months… do you think we will get on the plane? Anxiety is through the roof here…

Longdistance · 10/10/2021 18:47

@Cal12345 Jet2 saying 3 months and also information here imigrante.sef.pt/en/entrada-em-portugal/

roses2 · 10/10/2021 19:06

@Carriemac

Departure according to website
This is NOT correct. If you do need a test then it's within 48 hours from when you arrive. So if you leave UK at 2pm Friday and arrive 6pm Portuguese time (5pm UK time) then you need to take your test within 48 hours of the arrival time so anytime Wednesday 5pm onwards.

Easyjet turned people away this week for taking their test ~47 hours from departure but 50 hours from arriving.

Carriemac · 10/10/2021 23:11

We're here in Portugal - no departure tests needed - I sailed
Through passport Control in faro on my EU passport with no checks on d vaccination - DH in the other queue has to show his nhs vaccination certificate

Carriemac · 10/10/2021 23:11

This was Saturday am .

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/10/2021 00:20

Great news @Carriemac, have a lovely time!

Longdistance · 11/10/2021 08:06

@Carriemac that’s good news. We’re flying into Faro in two weeks time. Just dd1 needs a test. Did your dh produce a paper form or the NHS app for proof? My dh has ordered a paper form and I’ve got the app with the vaccinations downloaded.

CloudPop · 11/10/2021 12:18

And I am reading it right that for entry to the UK, under 18s follow the same rules as fully vaccinated?

Longdistance · 11/10/2021 13:53

From the government website:

Children resident in the UK or in a country with an approved proof of vaccination
Children of all ages who are resident in the UK, or in a country with an approved proof of vaccination, do not have to quarantine on arrival in England.

If they are aged 4 and under they do not have to take any COVID-19 travel tests.

5 to 17 year olds:

do not have to take a COVID-19 test before travel to England
must take a day 2 test on or before day 2 – arrival day is day 0

CloudPop · 11/10/2021 16:12

Thanks @Longdistance I'm losing faith in my own ability to decode all the rules !

ChristopherTracy · 11/10/2021 17:49

Hi all so which PCR test are people ordering for their 12+?
