We're thinking of going on hol to Gran Canaria in late Feb, and would love to hear of any good s/c apartments. We'll have 2year old and 4mht old sons with us so we want to be near a good beach and restaurants etc but would also like a pool (pref heated) to included with the apartment. Also, which is the best area of Gran Can?

I've not been but like the look of Puerto Mogon.

Sorry, it's spelt Puerto Mogan

puerto megan was devastated by a fire this summer
puerto rico is better than playa del ingles[a bit like blackpool in the sun/benidorm ish)but is built into a mountain side.
The new man made beach is playa amadores and is beautiful with fine facilities with lots of new accomodation around there

personally we have stayed in
terrazamar sunsuite royal, eden apartments.las fresas, nido del aguilar all in puerto rico
all have different pos and negs but would go back to them

a friend stayed in the new resort near maspalomas (mostly 4 and 5 star )accomodation and enjoyed it.

hi chatee - what was the 4 and 5 star resort called? Did they have any s/c apartments there? We don't mind staying in a hotel but can't find any that have a sep sleep area for the boys.

We stayed at the Cay Beach Melonares back in May 2006. These were lovely apartments (we went with Portland but think Thomson now do them only). We went with our daughter when she was about 18 months old. The apartments were lovely and clean and there were 2 separate pool areas and a childrens pool. But not sure if they were heated. The complex was also a good 15/20 minute walk from the golden bach at Maspalomas but closer (maybe 10 mins) to a smaller, black sand beach.

The food at the resort was nothing special, but there were some lovely restaurants down by the beach areas which we walked to every night.

Maspolomas/Melonares is a quieter resort - mostly favoured by locals/Spaniards. Def not your "Benidorm ilk/sausage and chips" resport
