Recommendations of where to stay in Vienna
givemeanother · 20/09/2021 03:55
We're planning a August holiday to the Austrian lakes (near St Wolfgang) and want to finish with a few days in Vienna.
Any recommendations of the best district to stay in with kids? We're happy to take public transport into the city and would like an area with nice parks, cafes, good for strolling etc.
Also any recommendations for day trips out of Vienna gratefully received!
Thanks!

During our first visit to Vienna, we stayed in Leopoldstadt which is the island between the Danube and the Danube Canal. We picked it because it was very quiet, with great access to the metro and connections to the rest of the city. The prices were much better than in the city centre and overall it was well worth it. We were close to the Praterstern water park and Riesenrad amusement park, as well as other attractions like Madame Tussauds Vienna, the chocolate museum, and a planetarium.
The second time we stayed in the Hietzing neighbourhood which is further out and near the Schonbrunn Palace and Zoo. It’s also right next to the Wood.

Thanks @Ricekrispie22 this sounds like exactly what we're after.

We had a lovely top floor apartment with a terrace. There was a key safe to collect entry cards. They have a shared washing machine etc and the apartment had all mod cons including a dishwasher and iron etc.
Lots of shops in the vicinity and lovely bakers on the corner.
We stayed in the Glockengasse apartments in Leopoldstadt. Close to the Prater and very easy for public transport as RiceKrispie said. I booked this through Booking.com
