Another half term holiday thread! We have booked to go to Crete and am now worrying a bit about the weather. The long range forecast is showing weather as going to be around 5’ while we are there!!!
We’ve been to Cyprus at this time before and weather was perfect for us (mid 20s) and was hoping for similar in Crete as it is the furthest south of the Greek Islands.
If weather is poor will there be enough to keep us occupied? We are happy to go hiking, sightseeing etc and may hire a car so hoping it can still be a great holiday. But would also love e few days on a sun lounger! We are staying just east of Heraklion.
Thanks

I've been in in October and November and it's been warm ,sunny and rain free. Very pleasant T-shirt /beach weather with breeze from the sea to stop it feeling too hot. In October I saw a number of British children who were so badly sunburnt they'd had to receive hospital treatment and were swathed in bandages. I looked up the weather statistics for you. There's an average of only 5 days in October when it rains in Crete. The temperature ranges between 16-24 . Heraklion is near Knossos which is a must see. Heraklion has an ancient port worth seeing as well as the archeological and natural history museums. Crete's a big place and not all touristy so it can be worth while car touring. Bag a few monasteries like Arkadi. We enjoyed touring using the local bus services. Better view than from a car and much more exciting on narrow, twisty, mountain roads.

Thanks @ItsDinah that’s really helpful. Those poor kids! As someone who’s had skin cancer that sounds horrendous!

I've never been to Crete in October but wanted to mention that the Chania region is just beautiful.

Chania itself is a beautiful place to spend a day or evening.

The mountains are just spectacular - my DSs and I completed a 60k cycle tour from one side if the island to another travelling through villages and just beautiful scenery.

We stayed in an inland village called Vamos. It was just perfect away from the crowds and full of greek life.

As long as you have a car you won't be stuck for things to do.
