We have booked a hotel in the Financial district which looks lovely with fab city views. However our children will be in one room and us in the other. Hotel says they only allocate rooms on check in. Am I over reacting about possibility of them being of separate floors? One is 18 and other 2 13-15yrs. Asked but hotel say will only do this on check in.

I’m surprised the hotel will allow a room to be occupied with no one 21 or over. It’s most unusual here in the US for a hotel to allow a room not to have someone 21 or over in it.
Yes, there’s a chance the rooms could be on separate floors. Most hotels don’t assign rooms until check in - so many people cancel or change their reservations between booking and actually arriving that it would just cause too much work to keep assigning and re-assigning rooms.
Financial district is an odd choice also but it’s usually cheaper there over weekends.

I wouldn't panic about the kids being alone in a room they are old enough but I would expect the hotel to expect one over 21 in each room.

I’m not sure whether you can change your booking but Hilton group hotels now give you the option of booking adjoining rooms at the time of booking.
