October half term - where??

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/09/2021 17:19

We had to cancel our summer holiday and are all feeling rather down in the dumps. Where can we go for a week at the end of October for some heat and sun?
We are, Me, DH, DS (17), DD (15). We like beaches, exploring, villas or hotels as long everyone isn’t all on top of each other. Budget is £4K absolute tops for the week.
Any suggestions please?

Dubai or Cyprus

RandomMess · 01/09/2021 18:32

Are the canaries still warm enough?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/09/2021 19:15

I think Tenerife is warm in October but not sure about others. We never usually go away in that half term so I’m a bit clueless - don’t want to be shivering on a beach somewhere!

Cyprus is a thought, never been there.

We’ve been to Tenerife in Oct and it was warm. Tenerife the best weather of all the canaries

FishfingerFlinger · 01/09/2021 21:21

Watching with interest as am thinking similar.

I’m looking at Andalusia or Sicily at the moment - neither have guaranteed beach weather in October but are places we’d be happy to go and explore even if the weather isn’t fab.

Anything mid 20s and above is ideal.
Any recommendations for areas in Tenerife??

I've been to Tenerife for Christmas a few times and it's been lovely then so I think October would be fine. You may want an extra layer in the evenings but during the day you'll definitly be warm enough.

beautifullymad · 01/09/2021 21:56

@Eternallyfrazzled

I’m thinking of the algarve for next October half term. From what I’ve read should still be fairly warm low to mid 20’s. Canaries would be warmer still.
We used to regularly go to the Algarve in October half term.

I'd say it was cooler but not cold. I was always in a T-shirt and skirt during the day with cardigans in the evening.

It wasn't typical beach weather but nice enough if you went in T shirts and leggings as Its quite windy.

A really lovely area and a quiet time of year to enjoy.

The weather changes greatly from mid September.

Jemma2907 · 01/09/2021 21:59

I'd recommend the Mare Nostrum resort, specifically the Cleopatra Hotel in Tenerife. It's next to the beach in Las Americas and close enough to be able to wander into Los Cristianos for the restaurants and a nice walk along the front in the evenings.

GoodnightGrandma · 01/09/2021 22:01

Canaries, but not sure whether to book or not.

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 22:04

Tenerife- Costa Adeje is a nice area - any of the 4 star hotels in the area are good, try to get one near the beach.

NotDonna · 01/09/2021 22:08

Morocco? Egypt?

Turkey? Latoonia resort or Club Marvy? www.tui.co.uk/destinations/europe/turkey/turkey-izmir/ozdere/hotels/club-marvy.html

RogueV · 01/09/2021 22:49

Place marking

languagelover96 · 02/09/2021 08:54

Cyprus

FishfingerFlinger · 02/09/2021 09:07

I was just looking at Turkey then realised it’s on the Red List, so that’s a no. Sad

AvonCallingBarksdale · 02/09/2021 10:24

Cyprus is coming up quite a bit and thanks for Tenerife suggestions Smile. I’d thought about Morocco but I’m sure I’ve read something about them not accepting uk vaccines yet - may have got that totally wrong though Confused

We go to Cyprus every October half term, weather is always lovely, temperature usually about 26, the odd shower and maybe a thunder storm a night but it’s never put us off.

PrincessLeiaInlockdown · 03/09/2021 09:39

For guaranteed beach weather look towards Asia, and best of hotels available in that budget.

fussychica · 03/09/2021 15:48

Lived in southern Spain for years. We usually still go at the end of September for about 8 weeks. Hot and sunny isnt guaranteed but the odds are very good. I think if you've only got a week it's a bit more risky as that could just be the lousy week!
Always had great weather in Lanzarote in Oct. Tenerife is better in South than north at that time of year. Went to the western Algarve in Portugal the last October before lockdown and had super weather.
