France PCR to return - do children need it?

Currently in France 🇫🇷 and having our PCR tests to return to England at a pharmacy today. I know my husband and I need them, but do my 10 and 8 year old need to have them?
Day 2 tests all booked for when we are back, I’m just confused about whether the children need the tests to return. Thank you!

Your 10 year old does, but not the 8 year old.

Why PCR?

I would do the antigen test. Less invasive and quicker results

They don't need to test before returning but they will need to do the day 2 tests on return. PCR but doesn't have to be swab, can be saliva based test.

Thank you Wandering and Kingston. After much google translating at the test centre we did rapid antigen tests, for the QR codes and have uploaded them just for the adults. PCR day 2 tests booked for all 4 of us back in the UK. Hoping this is correct - we shall see tomorrow if we get let back in!

For anyone else travelling: some advice given on this thread is not correct. The FCDO amber list site says "Children aged 10 and under do not need to take a pre-departure test to travel to England. There are different age limits for other COVID-19 travel tests."
i.e. the rule is 11 years and above have to take antigen test, not 10+ or 12+.

We made it back! All tests correct and in order! PCR day 2 tests waiting at home to complete for all 4 of us on Tuesday.
Thanks all - the guidance was confusing and I appreciate your help.

Ive also just returned from France and did antigen tests - straight through e-gate at London but if you had DC aged under 12 you would have been in for a wait of several hours - Ive never seen a queue like it.

I ordered Randox tests on Wed but nothing has arrived and its Bank Hol so am starting to panic that they won't arrive in time. What do you do if test doesn't arrive?

Have already had a T&T visit too !!!

@Mummify and @shinny If you got tested in Paris (or somewhere that is part of a national chain with branches in Paris) I'd be grateful if you could say where you got tested.

Hi! Wasn’t in Paris but this is the website I used to find a provider - www.sante.fr/cf/carte-depistage-covid.html
For pcr day 2 return tests I used Nationwide Pathology (£40, diy at home then post) and they arrived next day.
