Flying to an English airport, but live in Wales.

Hi everyone,

I wonder if someone can advise if they have been in a similar situation.

Before I went on a long trip to an Amber list country, I checked the covid testing requirements online. In Wales, you have to use the Welsh govt testing and you can’t use private providers. In England you use the private ones. At that time, the advice on line was very vague but it explicitly said that you had to follow the testing rules of whatever country you fly into (England). So I duly ordered my day 2 test from a private company and sent it off.

My usual home address is in Wales, but I also have a place in England (work). I put my welsh address down on the locator form. I got a generic email from the Welsh Travel/Trace team saying that as I am usually a welsh resident, I should have booked a Welsh govt test and that private tests do not count.

Has anyone been contacted about this? It’s not fair that I bought the test in good faith, based on the current advice. And now quietly they have changed the rules saying that you have to follow the testing rules of the country you are resident of. Meaning my private test is worthless and I should fork out again for a welsh govt one.

But you can't book a Welsh test online as the provider only has Cardiff as the drop down choice.

I've been helping a neighbour with the forms & they've been told to use a private provider.

The rules change frequently. This applies to all countries, not just Wales. I think that's the nature of travel for the foreseeable future unfortunately.
