Can I put a bottle of champagne in my luggage in the hold? Or will it blow up, ruining everything in the case?

you cant take champagne someone had one taken away when we were flying staff probably got to keep it so not worth the risk

OK just Googled, looks like it won't go pop due to pressure changes but the risk is that the bottle gets broken when the baggage handlers throw the case (which they no doubt will take great pleasure in doing), hmmm, might be better to leave it behind.

bubblagirl, were they trying to take it on as hand luggage?

yes they were not sure of reason why couldnt take it on but it was removed

Ah that explains it the bubblagirl, you can't take liquids over 100ml in your hand luggage.

I have decided to buy another bottle when I get there or at the Duty Free just to be on the safe side, I'd hate to see my case going round the carousel with champers leaking out all over.

They serve champagne during the flight so it must be OK in the cabin.

we brought some back with us this year, I packed it in the dirty clothes case, just in case it popped!

I didn't take it as I was taking a large but almost empty case to fill with shopping! I figured the champagne bottle would be rolling about the case too much, I couldn't find a box to put it in.

As it was I bought another bottle down there but was shocked to find that it was more expensive than up here (£13.99 in my local M&S and £16.00 in M&S in Brum).

Saw an episode of Airport once where the Easyjet staff would not let a passenger take champagne on in their handheld luggage.
