NHS Covid Pass barcode

I've just downloaded this onto my phone and I see - with horror - that next to the barcode it says that the pass expires after a few weeks Shock

Does this mean that on a regular basis we all need to download a new NHS Covid pass?? I found it a complete pain to get - taking a video of myself reading out four numbers, wtaf?? - so don't relish having to do it again or, even worse, being en route somewhere and realising that it's out of date...I mean, why does it expire??

I'm not sure what the 4 numbers thing over video is! But yes, it does expire. You just log onto the website and download a new QR code. You should just need your email address and password

mineofuselessinformation · 09/08/2021 19:34

Just get the NHS app on your phone?
Not the COVID one, which is a different thing. You should be able to download a fresh COVID pass whenever you need it.

EduCated · 09/08/2021 19:40

When you say the video, do you mean when you first downloaded the NHS app?

FrancescaContini · 09/08/2021 19:49

Sorry for not being clearer - yes, this is the NHS app on my phone, through which I downloaded my Covid pass.

As part of the process, I had to take a photo of my passport as well as taking a video of myself reading out four random numbers - goodness knows why...didn't you have to do this?!

Regarding the expiry date on the barcode, good Lord, it's yet another thing to do, isn't it? It just seems pointless...I mean, nothing has changed, I have still been vaccinated etc.....

Pretty sure the video and what not was just to get the app set up, rather than the pass itself, so you shouldn’t need to do that again.

Starisnotanumber · 09/08/2021 20:10

It automatically updates each day when you log in.
So if you log in again tomorrow it will be updated without any more fuss

mineofuselessinformation · 10/08/2021 08:53

What @EduCated said - that was just to get the app.
Getting a new pass is a much simpler process.

BIWI · 10/08/2021 08:55

What phone do you have? I have an iphone and didn't have to do that, whereas my DH, who has an android, did!

Next time you'll just renew the QR code.

FrancescaContini · 10/08/2021 08:55

Thanks for the clarification, everyone. Really helpful.

but does it actually work for anyone? 3 of us went to an event with these passes, for two of us the passes were not accepted.

FrancescaContini · 10/08/2021 08:58

Got an iPhone - you’re absolutely correct and sorry for not being clearer: I downloaded the NHS app in order to get access to my Covid pass so in my mind all those steps, including video, became connected with getting my pass.

God knows how you do all of this without mobile phone, email address etc.

What do you mean not accepted? Were you not allowed to enter the event?
Aposterhasnoname · 10/08/2021 09:03

God knows how you do all of this without mobile phone, email address etc.

You ring 119 and request a paper copy, which incidentally, does not have an expiry date.

Thanks for the tip - I didn’t know this! Where did you find that out?
