Lowest cost Day 2 test

Hi can anyone help with the lowest cost day 2 test following return to UK from France (Amber country).

I've found Randox at £43 with discount code but wasn't sure if there was anything cheaper. A lot on the gov website look like they're going to be £20 but are actually around £80.

Don't care about service or reputation as just need the code to sort the passenger location form.

What a farce this all is by the way!!

NWP are all sold out for the dates they are returning (day 2 and 8 for her) - looks like Randox is the only option for that.

greywell · 23/08/2021 20:22

Does anyone know if she'll have to order Day 8 upfront, or can she do test to release instead?

mudlarks · 23/08/2021 22:16

Arghhhh! Coming back to this very useful thread in a bit of a panic - one thing I thought would not happen is that the bloody Day 2 tests might SELL OUT! So I go to the NWP site to buy our day 2s and they're no longer available.

Well they are, if you spring for a courier service (£90!!) so in fact the tests are sitting there in stock but they're wanting you to pay over twice as much. Angry This whole thing is just a racket, isn't it?

So ... any tips for other good Day 2 test providers that don't cost the earth and which will deliver to our UK address by this saturday?? (assuming the day you travel is Day Zero - hope so, we get in late in any case.)

Hi, I ordered a test from Nationwide Pathology about an hour ago but I haven't received an email confirmation yet of my order. I have checked my spam and I saved the order confirmation number shown on the screen.

For those of you who ordered from Nationwide Pathology how long did the confirmation emails take?

EileenGC · 24/08/2021 08:33

I got mine immediately. Have they charged your account yet? If yes, give them a call and use the order number you saved.

On a side note, some good friends have recommended Oncologica as they were very happy with them, but they’re £55 a test so not exactly cheap.

roses2 · 24/08/2021 08:37

Thanks for replying so quickly. I can see a pending charge on my credit card. I saved the order number so will call them now.

roses2 · 24/08/2021 09:16

I couldn't get through on the phone (no answer) but my order email arrived 1.5 hours after placing the order.

If you do test to release you still have to do the day 8 test.
greywell · 24/08/2021 20:04

Thank you. We are struggling to get NWP- sometimes available/ sometimes not.

Oncologica is who qured send your tests to

I’ve had to cancel my trip this weekend. Never again visit in laws week before going on holiday. They’ve tested positive this week so we’d be close contact so don’t want to risk it.

Don't use Expert Medicals - we're currently on Day 2 and they've not been delivered, despite us ordering over a week ago. The email we've received says they were dispatched last Thursday for delivery yesterday, but the DPD tracking number says they've not even been collected by the courier yet. This is one of the companies listed on the gov.uk website - someone somewhere is making a huge amount of money out of this for a shockingly poor service, and the government is colluding - total scam. LFT tests in France were 25 Euros each - I can't believe some of the prices that are being charged in the UK for the same thing.

Hi mudlarks, we used Randox with an easyjet code so £43 each. I ordered them on Sunday just gone (after the price of NWP had gone up to £65!!), they were despatched on Monday and delivered yesterday (Tuesday). Great comms all round. Have yet to do the actual tests but so far so good - particularly as they say it can take 4-6 working days so I was a bit concerned they wouldn't arrive in time. Hope that helps
loadypoady · 27/08/2021 07:46

Hi SunCream32, would you mind sharing where you got the EasyJet discount code from please. We are due to travel with them next month and I cannot find anything on the app about COVID tests and codes. Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Hi loadypoady, yes of course - this is the link via Easyjet's Travel Hub - definitely worth looking at www.easyjet.com/en/covid-19-travel-hub/covid-19-testing-providers. With Randox just make sure you have a drop off box near you (covid.randox.com/kit-return/). We dropped our tests off yesterday, expecting results back today. Have a fab holiday!
Oblomov21 · 27/08/2021 10:37

Randox are now £89 Sad

Ahhh. Thanks style.

SunCream32 · 27/08/2021 15:49

Just got results back today using Randox, all received within 24-25 hours of dropping them off. Another box ticked!! All these (very expensive) hoops to jump through is absolutely ridiculous :(

Thank you for the Easyjet link, I do have a drop off box at a service station near me. Yes I agree about the ridiculousness of this situation. We were allowed to go on holiday last year without any tests and we were not vaccinated then! It’s a money making scandal and they have got those of us who wish to go on holiday over a barrel.
Rollergirl11 · 28/08/2021 08:28

I just have a question about the Randox day 2 tests and delivering to the drop boxes. We got back last night so my Day 2 is tomorrow. The drop box I will use closes at 3pm daily and anything delivered after that will be collected the next day. Does it matter if I do our tests today and deliver to the drop box today but after the collection time meaning it won’t get sent till tomorrow? Or do I need to ensure the tests are done and collection the same day?

stringbean · 28/08/2021 08:43

Does it really matter if you don't drop off your tests? Who is even monitoring this? We still haven't received our day 2 tests, and we're now on Day 5: the whole thing is an utter farce, designed to make a lot of money for these companies. Who is even collating the results and reviewing the data? I strongly suspect the whole thing is an exercise just so the government can say they did something to prevent the virus coming here from abroad. In which case, perhaps they should consider testing at the Devon/Cornwall border!

not sure who is monitoring the data, but i was contacted on my day 6 cuz someone had tested positive in the airplane so ... i guess someone is monitoring it
mrsrobin · 28/08/2021 12:51

Easter - what did they tell you to do, just out of interest?

stringbean · 28/08/2021 13:25

Well, I wait with interest to see if anyone contacts me to tell me I haven't yet done my non-existent day 2 test. We didn't even need to list our daughter's test reference number on the PLF (under 18), so no-one can link her to a test result anyway. The whole thing is a joke.

EasterIssland · 28/08/2021 14:17

@mrsrobin

Easter - what did they tell you to do, just out of interest?
Stay at home til day 10 since. So 5 days of self isolation.
