We are travelling to France on Wednesday - we were hoping to go to visit family in Brussels but as Belgium doesn't recognise the NHS vax certificate we've decided to use our Shuttle ticket anyway and head to France.

Looking around 2-3 hours from Calais, not necessarily coast, but with day trips/things to do with a 3 and 6 year old. Basically just want to mooch around, eat, visit markets etc.

Has anyone got any suggestions for areas or towns to base ourselves in?

Lille. Plenty to do, like the zoo for kids.

Arras is beautiful

Le Touquet. Good shops, restaurants, cafes, bars. Fabulous beach. And a good market, especially for seafood. Small funfair by the beach, looks ideal for toddlers too.
It's about an hour from the tunnel, motorway all the way, just about.
Or you can take the more scenic coast road.

Near Paris? www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/marne-la-vallee/202321

One stop from Euro Disney if fancy for a day (is it open??) but can get train into Paris itself. Or go to Versailles or Fontainebleau?

Wissant is lovely - about an hour from Calais, great beaches, lots of markets, a night food market and vide greniers nearby. Cliff top walks.

This
www.parcbagatelle.com/
is a smallish amusement park about 15 minutes south of Le Touquet.
It says you need a 'pass sanitaire' which i presume you have anyway.

Or head for Belgium and go to De Panne. They have an amusement park there which would be just right for your kids - Plopsaland

Swedish Belgium won't let them in!

Ah, sorry, yes - missed that important detail!

Le Touquet definitely and Etretat is really charming. Classic French seaside town.

Thanks everyone - you're amazing x

Agree Le Touquet or Etretat. Lille seemed to be full of beggars when I was last there(May)

I would look around Cabourg/Deauville. Nice seaside towns with weekly markets.
