Majorca - Part 2

I had a fantastic long weekend in Majorca last month staying in Illetas. I don't usually return back to the same place quite so soon but it was the only place that flights were cheap and flight times ideal for another long weekend so back I go.

Which area now?! I will be solo, I'm late 30s so won't be bar hopping but don't want to be too isolated. Prefer to be beside good scenery and a good pool is a must. I need to have places to go visit.

I was looking into Soller? Reviews on Deia was that it was lovely but not much to do. Don't want a man made resort that could be anywhere sunny.

Any suggestions?

Port de Soller is very pretty but quite geographically enclosed from other areas (assuming you won’t have a car?) Pollensa or Puerto Pollensa would be an obvious choice unless you think too touristy? Easy bus access to Alcudia too..

No I won't have a car. I'm considering Pollenca. Don't mind (other) tourists as long as the area is very pretty/scenic.

It’s very pretty! Personally I’d stay on the coast as it’s an easy taxi ride up the hill to the town (and cooler!) The pine walk is scenic and buzzy. Hotel Ila d’or would be a safe bet if in budget.

Interesting as I've just been looking at that hotel. It's number 2 on Tripadvisor. Could be a winner!

Porta Pollensia is the only holiday destination that we have been back to several times, rented a villa with a pool. But I wasn’t traveling solo. Enjoy!

I love Port Pollenca and have been several times, but if you're going in school holidays I would maybe avoid it - it is so very popular with families. Deia is breathtakingly pretty but yeah, there's not much to do other than walk down to the beach and eat and drink. It is sooooo gorgeous though.

The bus service between Pollenca and the Port is brilliant by the way so you could easily stay up in the town and just hop on the bus for the beach.

I love hotel esplendido in port de soller but it’s become almost prohibitively expensive over the years. Love the view of the harbour/bay from the pool which is above the hotel (it’s built on a sleep hill). Lots of lovely little restaurants. You can get the train to soller and from there onto palma if you want.

Germolenequeen · 06/08/2021 12:06

Oh I'd love to stay in Soller - beautiful and the train journey from Palma is fab - maybe do a few nights in each place?

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 06/08/2021 12:08

I am going the last weekend before the kids go back in England, maybe loads of families trying to fit in the last of their holidays?

@Caffeinemonster yes that was out of my price range. Typical of all the places I'm looking, I have champagne tastes on a beer budget! Grin Or the ones that I think I can afford turn out to be single pokey rooms. When I'm travelling alone I like a decent room, balcony etc. If I wasn't flying solo I would've be as fussed, or could afford it.

The Gran Hotel in Soller is listed as 5 star and I've found a great deal but it's not wowing me from the pics I've seen Confused

I also love Port Soller and the Esplendido. Lovely train trip to from Palma to Soller which is a nice little town for exploring then on the little wooden tram to Port Soller. Sigh I wish I was there now.
