DS may be off overseas to The States for sport for a year and I need to get him health insurance (club will cover when he is playing and at matches) but I need to get him some personal cover.

Any suggestions of who to use would be greatly appreciated

Travel insurance is unlikely to be sufficient. And for a whole year here it will be extremely expensive. He will need to organise health coverage through the marketplace when he arrives. Although if he’s being employed by someone and they have over 50 FTEs then they have to provide some form of health plan per the ACA (it won’t necessarily be without cost to him but a group plan is certainly better than purchasing an individual plan through the marketplace). To be honest, I wouldn’t even bother looking at a job offer that doesn’t include coverage. To me it’s not with the paper it’s written on.
