Majorca or not next week

Hi there,

We have both been double vaccinated. We have a 10 and 6 year old and due to fly out on the 28th for one week.

I have read that the Balearics will probably turn ambler plus and add on a 10-day quarantine. Does anyone know if that’s correct or not. I really am struggling to find the correct guidance!

We also have been fairly relaxed about going (excited actually) but we’re now starting to think with young children, is the hassle really worth it?

Alternatives of paying ££££ for terrible UK accommodations mean that we will not be going anywhere if we don’t go.

Has anyone been the last week or so with children? How did it go?

Thanks everyone 👍👍👍

Where have people got there tests from? We're going to menorca in a couple of weeks. 2 double vaxxed adults, a 12 year old and 9 year old. I think the 12 year old needs a pcr to enter Spain, then we all do lateral flows while we are there (which we can take with us?) and then all do pcr on day 2 of return?

What I can't work out is how they know who's done the lateral flow test? Are you witnessed? Or do you just do it yourself and log the result?

Any help from those who have been to Spain recently would be appreciated Grin

I went to Mallorca a few weeks ago. Did the LFT at a place near our hotel. There were loads of places to get it done - very easy!
thirstyformore · 11/08/2021 21:47

@IsabellesMissingSock thanks! How much were they please?

whenwillthemadnessend · 11/08/2021 21:49

I'm away in uk and might be positive. Might have to come home early waiting on test.

Bloody pain in the arse and this is a uk holiday

The thought of a foreign one is beyond stressful !!!

Why come onto a chat helping people who want to go on holiday with your insightful witticisms? Hmm

Not trying to be witty at all, just thought it worth pointing out that you can keep your self as safe as you can when you are there, but you still have to travel in close proximity to others.

OP asks Majorca or not - it’s not a chat helping people to go, they are making a decision. For me, the risk of being stuck unable to return would be too high, so it’s a not. I’m sure the majority of people will go and be fine, but for me it would be a no.

30 euros each. I think that's the max they can charge.

Planesandflying · 12/08/2021 09:04

Ppf35

It had massively moved on to helping people who are going though. We've all thought about the plane....

Planesandflying · 12/08/2021 09:06

When people refer to doing a PCR test day 2 of return, they mean in the UK? I thought the fear was being stuck in a quarantine hotel in Mallorca?

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 12/08/2021 09:32

You do a €30 test prior to coming back then a test on the 2nd you are back in the UK. If the €30 test is positive you have to quarantine (in Spain).

Thank you very much. At whose expense do you stay in Spain, I'm guessing the answer ....😫

I think it's the Spanish authorities that put you in special assigned hotels though I've just read an article about the experiences. Not good!

Planesandflying · 12/08/2021 17:57

Yes I've read it's pretty grim. How come the Spanish authorities pay? Does the British govt reimburse them?

Delatron · 12/08/2021 21:25

Yes I don’t understand why the Spanish (and Greek) authorities are paying to keep British Covid positive people in their countries. I understand they don’t want you travelling through the airport etc. But surely they should be more strict when you are arriving (as that is when the risk to their population is) and be less bothered when you are about to board a plane back to the U.K.

We don’t pay for people to stay here and quarantine do we? What happens if say a Spanish tourist tests positive before a flight back to Spain? Where do they isolate?

I think the potential Spanish/Greek quarantine hotel is the most stressful part of travelling at the moment.

rookiemere · 12/08/2021 21:51

@Delatron the Spanish and Greek governments are paying because it's the only viable way to encourage tourists to come. They've presumably worked out it's cheaper to take over some less salubrious hotels and offer this for free, than let the economy tank due to lack of foreign spending.

I certainly hope the BG isn't paying back for it - although it is an interesting question about what happens to travellers who test positive in the UK.

Delatron · 12/08/2021 21:54

Ah I see @rookiemere
I just thought they would be less concerned about quarantining people about to leave the country than those arriving. It must costing them quite a bit.

rookiemere · 12/08/2021 21:56

@Delatron people won't be able to board the flight home with a positive test, so I guess they have to go somewhere.

Delatron · 12/08/2021 22:06

Yes this is true. I guess at the least they pay.

Caligal · 13/08/2021 10:06

I got back yesterday and am planning on de-bunking a few myths later today.

All I can say is if you want to go, I would 100% recommend you do. It was fantastic.

Sallycinnamum · 13/08/2021 10:14

I echo @Caligal. We're out here at the moment and it's fabulous!

Flying out of Gatwick was easy once I'd got my head around all the paperwork and I printed everything off to make life easier rather than replying on my phone.

Palma airport was very quiet but have your Spanish locator forms handy as they scan them before baggage reclaim.

It was worth the headache and the cost of testing.

Planesandflying · 13/08/2021 12:36

That's great to hear, am looking forward to hearing the myths debunked!

DarlingCoffee · 16/08/2021 20:03

We are also in Majorca now and it was very easy at both airports, we were checked thoroughly at both although Palma airport was super quick. It’s lovely here so would echo those who say do go.

thenightsky · 16/08/2021 20:29

That's good news coffee. I was talking to my friend at Park run on Saturday. She's just returned from Zante and said it was one of the best ever holidays. Airport really quiet, so just whizzed through both ways.

uktrippin · 17/08/2021 06:21

I think everyone knows the airports are relatively quiet don't they? That the resorts are relaxed once you get there and it's easy to get your pre-flight test.

The issue is potentially testing positive and the problems arising from that. What are the "myths"?

Planesandflying · 17/08/2021 09:40

Yes we want to hear about the myths!

Remmy123 · 17/08/2021 10:45

I am in Ibiza .. all really straight forward at airport and quick - all much easier in reality than what it was in my head!!
