Due to holiday on Greek Island in 2 weeks. Really anxiety inducing, anyone in the area boat or can offer reassurance?

Ah sorry to hear about your holiday.
I feel anxious that similar might happen as my youngest DC hasn't had covid. The rest of us have.

As a sidenote
Am I correct that if the rest of us had it within the last 180 days
We only need to do a green test?

poshme · 26/07/2021 15:25

@Carrotcakeforbreakfast depends on whether you mean for going out or coming back

@Movinghouseatlast

I am so bloody stressed at the thought of having to quarantine in Greece someone sitting near me on the plane tests positive. I'm going in September but seriously thinking about cancelling. It woul d cost me a lot of money to cancel as as all booked and paid for nearly 2 years ago, also I have booked someone to cover my work who I will have to pay anyway.

Don't know what to do.

Ive decided I'm still going but am v paranoid! I think most people will be vaccinated so there's a lot less chance of them carrying the virus. Those who aren't will be tested. It's the kids I'm worried about! I'm just hoping everyone LFTs before they go.

Having now researched this to death, I'm reassuring myself with the fact that very few people in fact none on the island I'm going to have had to quarantine. They def won't quarantine whole planes either, just the people in close vicinity.

Movinghouseatlast · 26/07/2021 16:28

I just think everyone should have to be tested, jabbed or not, before they go. It would lessen the chances of being quarentined.

I'm going to wait and see what happens and try to stop thinking about it.

CatherineAragon · 26/07/2021 16:39

Just been asked to pay the balance on a holiday on October. When I look at the money I have to pay versus the stress involved , I really wonder if I should cancel and lose my deposit.

8lue8ird · 26/07/2021 16:45

I'm off to kefalonia with my 3 children on weds. Just done their fit to fly PCR tests but believe I don't have to as I am double vaxed .

Reading this thread has sent me into a flat spin that somebody on the plane will get us all quarantined, God I feel sick now.

Still, fingers crossed we all have a fantastic holiday, we bloody deserve it.

HotHointheavo · 26/07/2021 16:53

My DD is currently in Rhodes with her bff and her family. They flew out Saturday. It has felt like covid roulette but for them it has paid off. It was booked in January in blind faith!

I'm going to Kef on Friday. I think everyone feels like this which hopefully means everyone will be testing beforehand. Also, I like to to think kefalonia attracts a more mature, responsible crowd who are less likely to have been in nightclubs this week!

I had the fear last year as well and when I made it through to the other side I was elated and relieved and it was one of my favorite holidays.

reconsidering · 26/07/2021 18:04

Sorry for those feeling stressed, that was definitely me. We were sat behind one of those guys who barely wears his mask on the flight to Kefalonia. When we arrived I was also behind him in the testing queue and had a lightbulb moment. He and his partner hadn't been vaxxed (50s, I'd say) and so both had PCR fit to fly certs. So they were, ironically, probably the safest people to sit behind.

For anyone who is double vaxxed and hasn't done LFTs before leaving (surely most people do?) + the risk of being positive + sitting near + everyone on that flight being tested must be cumulatively v low? Mostly families and couples on the flight. Other than the guy in front, lots of mask wearing.

  • is this quarantining within two rows thing true (I've not seen it anywhere?)
8lue8ird · 26/07/2021 18:49

I also have not seen anything about quarantining within two rows, reading it on here was the first time I saw it…

iamthedanger · 26/07/2021 19:12

So sorry for you Bingo.
Just to reassure everyone who is worried, I arrived in corfu less than 2 hours ago and I'm at the Hotel bar already (with a 40 minute transfer!)
Yes, the Antigen test is a lateral flow (just a bloody money making version!).
Get paperwork ready and you're good to go. We checked in within 15 mins and weren't tested at corfu but others were - queue looked totally fine though.
Easiest journey I've done for ages.

Yes I'm wondering whether the two row thing is Chinese whispers or a hangover from last year. I read on the Greek gov website today (can't remember link sorry) that it was positives plus their companions who would be isolated and companions would have a pcr. I'll try and hunt down the link.
izzy2076 · 26/07/2021 19:30

travel.gov.gr/#/

Scroll down. Says companions and no mention of rows.

reconsidering · 26/07/2021 19:57

Wish I'd read that properly before flying! Nothing about other travellers. Good spot @izzy2076.

reconsidering · 26/07/2021 20:00

@Bingo78 that is such a shame. Hopefully there is an even better holiday waiting for you somewhere.

Movinghouseatlast · 26/07/2021 20:15

That sounds hopeful!

I read about the rows thing on TripAdvisor.

mrsanflowerpot · 26/07/2021 21:09

Please can I just check as I'm going NUTS trying to reassure myself, we're going with DCs but DH and I both fully vaccinated. As well as green packages from chronomics for all of us, we've also ordered these for DCs, as it looks like these are okay as well as PCRs - am I right???

@mrsanflowerpot
I have ordered the exact same test for my DC.

izzy2076 · 26/07/2021 21:11

Yes! That's right!

izzy2076 · 26/07/2021 21:13

It's like some horrible 1980s arcade game isn't it going on holiday to Greece in Covid times? You used to just get on a plane...

mrsanflowerpot · 26/07/2021 21:16

Thanks SO much everyone. Really, I'm usually such an organised person who makes sure they know what they need etc., I just have not been able to work out whether I'm doing anything right or wrong with this!

Can you check me now?!

2 under tens one vaccinated adult. No compulsory LTF before flying (but will def do one anyway) PLF, day 2 randox booked with in advance for all 3 of us. Departure: Only LFT for me within 48 hours of flying home plus plf with randox code on it. Have I missed anything?

poshme · 26/07/2021 21:48

@izzy2076 that looks right to me!

ArabellaPilkington · 26/07/2021 21:48

Are there any reports of any Greek airports random testing kids on landing rather than adults? We are travelling with teens under 18. My DD (14) might be a bit freaked out if she was singled out.

sergeantmajormum · 26/07/2021 23:12

@izzy2076 the pre return test (lat flow or pcr) can be taken in the 3 days prior to return flight according to gov.uk rules for Amber list returns, not 48 hours.
