Has anyone been to Carvoeiro in Portugal and can recommend things to do/see and places to eat?

Thank you 🤍

Just place marking as we've booked Carvoeiro for this summer x

Any family- friendly recommendations gratefully received!

Pretty much everywhere is family friendly here but if you want specific recommendations please let me know (we’ve lived here for over 20 years)

One thing I would be aware of is that we are experiencing extreme drought currently, so be prepared that water pressure may be reduced, or even cut off at times and please be mindful of water use. We collect shower water in a bucket while waiting for it to warm up and either use it on the garden or to flush the loo.

There may be restrictions on topping up pools so please don’t blame the hotel/villa owner if that happens.

The north of Portugal is fine, it’s the algarve which is suffering, along with parts of Spain

Oh gosh - that's not good news. We might have to have a re-think for this year. Thanks so much for the info though.

No problem, I think the word needs to be spread to avoid disappointment

@Costacoffeeplease
Hope you don't mind me jumping on this discussion but this thread is super useful 😀
I'm heading to carvoiero in July with my teenage children. We're staying on the Rua do Barranco in an apartment (near to casa do pao restaurant) but slightly concerned it will be noisey..?
We won't have a car and wanted kids to be able to do their own thing in the evening.
How easy is it getting to the other beaches such as CenteanesBeach, Vale Covo..? Are there buses..? As seems quite far to walk...?
Also, is there a paddle boarding rental place in the area. ? Many thanks!

Costacoffeeplease · 11/02/2024 20:35

No problem. It shouldn’t be too noisy as there are no bars in that area, just a couple of restaurants. There could be road noise, and sometimes the communal bins get emptied early in the morning.

There are buses to centeanes, vale de covo and smugglers beach (Carvalho) or you can use Uber, or get a taxi from the taxi rank at the end of Rua do Barranco (going towards the beach).

I’m not sure about paddle boarding but you would probably need to go to Praia Grande or Praia da Rocha for that

Hi sorry to jump on this thread

I was looking at this area, and saw a hotel for Vale d'Oliveiras Quinta Resort. Do you know much about this hotel or do you have any recommendations? We were also looking at Lagos!

Thank you!

Costacoffeeplease · 11/02/2024 21:34

I’ve not been to Vale d’Oliveiras personally but I’ve heard good reports about it. You would need a car as it’s quite a way out of the village, it is close to Gramacho golf course and half way between Carvoeiro and Ferragudo.

If you want to be closer to Carvoeiro have a look at Monte Santo, Quinta do Paraíso, Monte Carvoeiro, Monte Dourado, Algar Seco, Hotel Tivoli, Colina Verde
