What's your experience of Malta?
ISayHey · 12/07/2021 22:01
I'm looking at going to Malta in a few months, depending on the circumstances.
I'm really looking for somewhere warm, nice scenery, nice beaches, good food. My partner wants to go to Malta.
There are other places we'd consider too.
What's your experience of Malta?
Would you recommend it?

Vsketta is stunning. I just know Gozo though and really like it. It's a bit rickety, the roads are almost comically awful but it has huge fharm and the people are gentle and cheerfu.

Oops, so many typos. That is meant to read Valetta.

@BarbaraofSeville
I like to think it's for another reason than we don't look like we could afford to buy one, such as we're strong minded enough to never fall for the spiel.
Haha! I'm pretty sure we look like we can't afford one🤣 (we genuinely can't). Doesn't stop them trying.
We fell into one on an afternoon when we'd nothing planned, the sell wasn't that hard but you could tell their frustration that we just kept insisting we couldn't afford it. When we realised we could get a free excursion out of it we allowed ourselves to be "enticed" again by other hotels on subsequent trips if we were at a loose end.
Some of the touts are honest and tell you they get commission just for getting punters through the door even if you don't sign up and ask you to pretend you've never been to another presentation.

This was all around Sleima btw, the Preluna and another one along Triq it Torri that I can't remember.

I like it! We went to St Paul's Bay and stayed at the San Antonio beach hotel a couple of years ago. I'm sure the beach was sandy... but I might be wrong. It was quiet and not much in the way of banging nightlife but I enjoyed the break. They drive on the same side of the road as us so that was handy too.

I've been to Malta, didn't really click with it. It felt like somewhere a retired person would go when they weren't at the bowls club. I would go to a Greek island over Malta every time. You get beaches, history, culture, food, weather, all stunning. And great people and atmosphere.

OK for a week, but we went for 2 & it was too long.
The hypogeum is the highlight. Buses are good, but as already said can be crowded, & the drivers give priority to locals waiting at the bus-stops.
Food can be hit&miss

Dreadful
My mum used to live there, the men are rude , and it's dull and boring
No way I'd pay to go on holiday there.
OldScrappyAndHungry · 14/07/2021 22:40
We loved it - have been 3 times, once with the kids who also loved it! I don’t recognise the miserable descriptions here - there’s bloody loads to do! But then we’re not beach holiday people .
FizzyPink · 14/07/2021 22:45
For a sunshine holiday where you just lie by the pool all day it’s fine although I’d recommend booking a decent hotel.
However, as a place to actually explore it’s not great. Food is pretty crap. We have family there and it just feels too much like a hot version of England. Lots of the same chain restaurants etc.
For sun, sightseeing and good food I much prefer a Greek island or somewhere like Seville or Valencia

Little songbirds caught in tiny cages for you to buy - I spent a lot of money buying them to set them free. Former BIL Maltese
