Christmas! Winter sun? Anyone?

Anyone hoping for some winter sun? Do you think it’s fairly unlikely with winter restrictions? We had to cancel Portugal when it went to amber and are therefore just going uk holidays this summer. We have Wakes booked for October half term but I’m not very excited by the thought if it! Sounds damp Grin sorry to any Welsh reading…

I love a Christmas/New year overseas we’ve done it twice now the kids are older and it’s such a nice thing to look forward too when the days are short (we’re in Scotland it gets dark so early).

I was originally looking at the Caribbean. Pricey though. Anyone else?

I wouldn't be excited either. A trip to the carribean obviously doesn't compare.

If you're looking for a holiday in the sun wales is one of the last places I would suggest, saying that I've never gone only heard things about it.

Hope you have a lovely holiday Grin

@wookneecorn I know! We were planning some active stuff with the teens/Liverpool on the way there. But the weather has been rubbish so far this summer and all I can think about is SUN!!!!! Not sure I can face going into winter without it 😫 we’re holidaying in Scotland this summer so sun is not guaranteed. Confused

I love going away in the winter (or at any time tbh!), but having cancelled three trips last year and had a further year of anxiety and wondering whether we'll be able to do our trip this summer (now, finally looking good), I can't face booking anything else at the moment. We usually go skiing at new year, but until the situation in the UK/Europe this winter is clearer we'll be holding off. Part of the joy of travel, for me, is the anticipation, but Covid has sucked every ounce of joy out of planning a holiday Sad

I know. I booked UK (after the Portugal debacle) and now lots of people are going abroad I’m soooo jealous! The Wales trip is full refund if cancelled up to 30 days before so I could feasibly wait until September and see, maybe cancel and book one of the southern Greek islands…

I’m booked to go Turks and Caicos at Christmas. I went last year too, we were on one of the last flights out before they suddenly clamped down. Hopefully it will all still go ahead again this Christmas.

Marrakesh
Malta (safest bet covid wise) bright rather than hot
Thailand (covid restrictions?)
What about skiing? Bar the lounging about it ticks lots of the ‘what you’d get from a winter sun holiday’ boxes- fresh air, sunshine, different food

Going to Laza with 2 friends 26th Dec - 2nd Jan if all goes according to plan 🙏 Not cheap but had a voucher from Love Holidays from our cancelled Portugal trip so we're adding to that 🙂

GenericUsername404 · 10/07/2021 11:38

I think islands are a safer bet. Particularly in the Caribbean some of the smaller islands already have pretty much vaccinated their entire populations so will be less likely to refuse UK tourists.

Thanks all! Skiing maybe in February but at New Year it’s too cold and dark.

I’m just a bit down as we had to cut short a holiday last week to self isolate (son has Covid), having already had to cancel Portugal. I booked UK but now my eldest has the chance to go to Mallorca with a friends family rather than our UK break. Great for him but I’m sad we won’t all be together. Just a bit down about it all. Sad

Which companies are people using? We like small places, not all inclusive. Normally would book independently but got stung on our Portugal break by Airbnb.

I am hoping to visit Singapore in December. They are hoping to reopen to countries for tourism by around September (not sure which ones initially) so I’m hoping it’ll go ahead. I’ve booked a refundable hotel & flights so not bothered financially if it doesn’t go ahead.

I went to Singapore in 2019 in December and the weather was lush! I also went to Thailand too and it didn’t rain once for two weeks. Phuket has opened for tourists now if you’re fully vaccinated so maybe go there!

byvirtue · 10/07/2021 20:42

I love the Caribbean in December/January. Usually book 6 weeks in advance but will probably cut that down to 3/4 weeks I want to know exactly what restrictions we are likely to be facing before I book.

doorornottodoor · 10/07/2021 22:18

Feeling a bit more positive thank you! @byvirtue @Hairbrush123 who do you book through?

I’m thinking I may cancel Wales and book abroad for October half term. I’ll wait until September and see how it’s all looking.

We will all be double vaccinated but the kids won’t….
