We are going to Majorca soon and need to book travel insurance with covid cover. Any recommendations? And any idea what definitely can't be covered in terms with covid?

Watching with interest, I'm looking to book our insurance too. When are you going? We're booked to fly out on 17th July fingers crossed.

rookiemere · 06/07/2021 08:33

Look at staysure, they cover for cancellation due to positive covid test or requirement to self isolate.

IsabellesMissingSock · 06/07/2021 09:14

I booked LV, mainly due to the cancellation cover in the event of a positive test. Which fortunately turned out not to be needed!

Plantsandwine · 06/07/2021 09:35

Thank you all! So there is insurance that would help with costs of a hotel quarantine if I tested positive pre departure back to England?
I am tempted to cancel my holiday as I am so worried about a positive test result and losing all our money. We are meant to be going to majorca on Sunday!!

RampantIvy · 06/07/2021 09:39

Anyone who has booked a holiday please take out your insurance NOW.

Just a heads up, but especially in these uncertain times, it is never a good idea to leave taking out insurance until just before you go away because it also covers cancelling your holiday as well as anything unexpected while you are away. You should really take out insurance at the time you book.

I don't think any of them cover hotel quarantine. I looked at a few and then got small print blindness and just gave up and went with LV, like I say for the positive test pre-cancellation aspect. Altho several include that cover.
rookiemere · 06/07/2021 09:45

Staysure says it provides a daily allowance if you're forced to stay in the country, but doesn't say how much that would be.

IsabellesMissingSock · 06/07/2021 09:46

@Plantsandwine I don't think you need to worry about catching covid here. The place is pretty empty (well, compared to how it should be this time of year!), we are eating outside all the time as it's so warm, and the hotels are really hot on covid measures. Understand it's a stress tho

Amboseli · 06/07/2021 10:06

I'm booked with TUI and they include some sort of cover if you have to quarantine once you're out there but it's very vague and doesn't say whether you get a refund on your hotel if you can't stay there due to having to self isolate.

Watapalava · 07/07/2021 11:58

staysure dont cover isolation - ive just been on their online chat with them.

positive test only

@watapalava thank you for your reply. I will look at going with lv as they cover isolation abroad if you test positive, not sure how much they would cover though. So stressful!!

IamMaz · 07/07/2021 12:38

I am waiting to be able to fly to Spain and travel insurance is on my mind...
But surely it's not valid if you want to fly to an amber destination because it is against the Foreign Office guidance?

saraclara · 07/07/2021 12:44

I researched this very thoroughly about six months ago. I went with HolidaySafe as they seemed to have the best Covid (and overall) cover for me. Which? magazine also recommended them for Covid cover etc.

Caveat- obviously a lot can change in six months.

Watapalava · 07/07/2021 14:36

Just spoke to stay sure again as there site suggested it did cover isolation

Anyway it does apply to new booking from April

Isolation and positive results but only isolation from government so not sure how it applies to school bubbles

I’m taking mine out from tomorrow as they can do the zoom lessons

Watapalava · 07/07/2021 14:38

I read on trip advisor that hotel quarantine abroad is covered by Spanish and Greek government as you have to go to their hotels

Musicaltheatremum · 07/07/2021 14:42

AA cover isolation and catching covid

Bichette · 07/07/2021 20:06

Do all these insurers cover you if you are travelling against FCDO advice? Which is the case for most amber countries?

ilovesooty · 08/07/2021 15:07

It isn't from July 19th if you're double vaccinated.
coogee · 08/07/2021 16:09

It isn't from July 19th if you're double vaccinated.

I thought that was when the requirement to quarantine will end, not when the FCO advice will change.

In any case, the advice for amber countries is essential travel only.

Travel is essential if you want to holiday in an amber country.

Bichette · 08/07/2021 18:50

Gov website has been updated.
Should be easier to get insurance now.

Best travel insurance?
coogee · 08/07/2021 20:28

Unfortunately, not all European amber list countries have had that update.

ilovesooty · 08/07/2021 23:18

There are certain Amber list destinations such as several of the Greek Islands that were exempted from the FCO advice before.
