Just going to save for a big holiday in 2022

Has anyone else given up all hope of a holiday this summer and just going to save for something bigger and better next year when we are back to normal (please god)?

We keep looking about places but with countries going from green to amber so quickly and not really wanting to face quarantine after three lockdowns it just seems too risky, especially if countries might change their rules for UK travellers. We spent a lot of lockdown 1 on the phone trying to cancel our 2020 holidays and don't fancy that again.

Is anyone feeling the same? If so, where are you planning to go next year?

Yes and no. We’ve a week in the Peaks this summer and a paid for rearranged Croatia/Montenegro trip in the summer half term 2022.

But I’m merrily stashing away ££ for a hopeful long haul next summer which I won’t book I think till much nearer the time! The thought of it is keeping my happy.

Me happy, not my!!

I’ve given up on a foreign holiday this summer to the USA in lieu of a Scottish break. Absolutely loved it and I actually saved money. Hoping to go to Mexico in October so hopefully that’ll go ahead.

We are just going for 2 weeks in the UK this summer (Devon and Isles of Scilly).

2022 I will wait and see I got caught in 2020 by having booked very early in 2019 and directly with places so am very wary. And the constantly changing rules plus an ASD child makes me wary.

But would love to go long haul in 2022. Though I'm veering between trying to grab something great in UK now and holding out for long haul.

I would love to do the Asian holiday we had planned for 2020 - it was originally Thailand, Borneo and Perhentian Islands though am nervous as its multi country and multi flight. So would veer towards something with one country as a destination.

We’ve moved our 2020 holiday to 2022. Luckily we have relatives by the coast so we’ll do that again, and have the same (cheap) break as last year. We want to go to Florida but I’m not booking that until all restrictions ease, luckily the kids will want to travel with us for another 4-5 years so there should still be time.

With rules constantly changing its not worth booking a foreign holiday this year. For those who are fortunate enough to have a passport, I would invest your money in a foreign break next year.

We are going to Greece this year, I've got my own travel agents and I realised if we waited for restrictions to ease it could be another 2 or 3 years before we went anywhere. By all means plan for your 2022 holiday ( most of my forward bookings are for next year) but don't bank on it being stress free . I think the extra paperwork concerning travel will be around for some time.

Having had to cancel a number of things including holidays I had booked for 2020 I decided not to book anything for this year and am glad I haven’t - hoping to at least ski in 2022 but not booking that or indeed anything yet - thankfully had some great breaks in 2019 so not feeling at all hard done by .

We’ve booked 3 weeks in the Carribean next February so I’m really hoping that comes off.

Last August we managed 10 days in Zante, booked it and flew 3 days later. Avoided any quarantines which was great. Hoping to be that lucky this summer even if we only get a week 🤞🏼
I’m guessing this winter is also out so hoping for Lapland next December. Was originally going to be December 2020!

Defo booking a foreign holiday but last minute .. if it goes green to amber will suck up the cost but it will be worth it to see my kids happy in the sun!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/07/2021 12:01

We've had a week in Devon and will be having a week in S Wales in Aug. But we aren't booking anything abroad this year - too many unknowns about what restrictions there are there or when you return, and I'm not keen on the fuss of having to get tested before and possibly while away.

I do have a short break that was moved from last Oct to this Oct so may give that a whirl, but only because it's pre booked and I don't think they'll move it again for us.

Puppysharness · 06/07/2021 12:28

Yes. But I also did this last year. Which doesn’t bode well….

RazorstormUnicorn · 06/07/2021 13:40

I am hoping to get a cheap last minute break to somewhere green list in October/November.

At the same time am saving for 2022, I'd like to do Jordan (to see Petra) and maybe Canada. I have such itchy feet I might book Petra if the holiday firm will move my booking if restrictions say I can't go. I could quarantine if need be - just trying to avoid it if I can!

CeeJay81 · 06/07/2021 18:54

We have booked Crete for next year(late May). We are not comfortable going anywhere abroad this year. It's a long way off but gives is something to look forward too and I really hope things are close to normal but this seems to be going on for so long, so who knows.

72WayTooCool · 06/07/2021 20:52

We've got a month in Australia booked for October 2022 but I'm not holding out much hope that we'll go. It can be moved so I'm not worried about losing money but I will be disappointed if we can't.
