Testing for Portugal?

Hoping someone can advise as I’ve literally been reading nonsense for hours and am still no further forward

Ds (14) and I are booked for Portugal beginning of August. I’m double vax’d, obviously he isn’t.

What tests do we need assuming we can go? Are Randox the best provider currently?

Many thanks

We’ve used randox and had great service. We’re not in the Algarve so picking up the one to return locally.

Howshouldibehave · 05/07/2021 15:25

Can I ask what sort of prices the Randox tests are per person?

Also, have you been able to get travel insurance?

RickiTarr · 05/07/2021 15:26

No idea myself but following. I want to book something, if there’s any availability left.

How do we show a lateral test result?

irritableshark · 06/07/2021 19:14

Does that table not mean the 14 year old will have to quarantine?

Rachie20 · 06/07/2021 22:05

Paid £119 for an amber kit (pre departure, days 2 and 8). Have insurance via Admiral.

Nootkah · 07/07/2021 10:33

@irritableshark No, it says unvacvinated children travelling with vaccinated adults are exempt from quarantine.

irritableshark · 07/07/2021 11:10

Thanks @Nootkah - it's all v confusing. So with Portugal currently we would have to self isolate here on return, regardless of vaccination status I guess.

That Tui grid is v helpful.

Am
Hoping that the next announcement will allow those vaccinated to be exempt from
Quarantine on arrival back in U.K. but then I don’t know what they will say about kids

Anyone on this thread still planning to go to Portugal and have decided what to do about testing?!

It’s a bit of a minefield.

It seems you need…

  1. a test before leaving England (can that be an antigen or does it have to be a PCR?), either 48/72 hours before leaving, depending on the test. I’m not sure how the timing works for that one-we leave on a Monday morning-how would that work with Royal Mail?!
  1. Then, you need to have already ordered a Day 2 one, so you can write the code on your passenger info form when you fly.
  1. Then one in Portugal before leaving which could be done at various places eg outside the town hall in Albufeira?

I have an additional issue- we all had COVID last month- my eldest, my husband and I got positive PCRs. I didn’t bother doing a pcr for my two youngest kids- 10 and 6 -as they obviously had it total loss taste and smell) so we just kept them off school in quarantine. But now we are exempt from testing for 90 days as we are likely to trigger a false positive. How do I demonstrate this when we travel to Portugal in august? I have the nhs app with the positive pcrs for my husband, eldest and I- do I just show them the barcode?
