Anyone traveling to Italy this summer?
Loveagoodbook · 03/07/2021 18:52
We are due to go four weeks today and I really don't know what to do.
I thought I had made the decision to defer to next year (already deferred from last year) , I emailed the apartment owner and she has said sit it out, until the next review.
I thought that she would want us to cancel now, so she has a good chance of re booking.
I'm so confused! I want to go, but then I think that next year will hopefully be (more) covid free and we will get the proper experience! Aaagh

I'm in the same situation, we're meant to go end of August and at the moment it will not happen as there's no point going for 9 nights and quarantine for 5 of them. I did read somewhere that the current 5 day quarantine is until the 30th of July, then it will be reviewed so who knows? Interesting they didn't want you to cancel the booking as August is peak time?

We are due to go in four and half weeks. I pushed my booking back a bit to give a couple of days after the next review. I am hoping that the quarantine requirement is removed on 30 July and we can still go. It's hard to know what next year will be like.

Where are you going? I don't know about the quarantine rules but if that were lifted, would you be ok about travelling? Has the owner said what the terms are if you wait?
Habitualhonesty · 04/07/2021 09:36
Same boat. Due to go in 4 weeks time. If quarantine lifted in destination country and we get the reported relaxation of quarantine upon return from amber. Then we will go.

Well we have booked with eurocamp who are happy to wait to see if it goes green. If it doesn't they will cancel. I think that could be cancelled in a couple of weeks if there is no further news.
If that happens I will try to book an Airbnb or something last minute.
Yes I am ok to travel. We'll probably keep it low key on the week before we go to avoid testing positive. We will be mostly outdoors in Italy. I'd rather take the chance to go if we can. If not, it will be a staycation as nothing much left to book in UK.

We rolled ours over until 2022. I’m glad, as l would be dubious about going now.

Thanks everyone, who would have thought this time last year, the situation would still be the same.
Yesterday I was all ready for accepting that we will travel next year and then the reply from the apartment owner threw me! She is confident she will re book, we are going to Lake Garda and I suppose it's like a seaside town In this country, anything in August would get booked up easily, so at least I can relax on that score, as I felt, we had let her down two years on the run.
I think Italy has lower covid cases than us, so travelling doesn't bother me, but obviously the rule of 5 days quarantine when we get there at the moment isn't good, but I'm sure Jet 2 wouldn't fly us out there if that is still the case 🤷🏼♀️
I hope everyone gets to go, we need a break and some sunshine. Sending positive thoughts.

I'm hoping to go to Rome in September, but I'm holding off booking flights and apartment until I know what's happening with the 5 day quarantine review at end of July.
The current restrictions end on 29th July, but I don't know when a review will take place/ how far ahead we'll know if things there are likely to change.

Due to travel at the end of the month, just before the 5 day quarantine may be lifted (or extended). I had suggested to DH when we booked (ages ago) that we not go til August, but he insisted & I capitulated (never again!)
We can cancel up to the 23rd, so we’re hanging on until the 15th to find out what the quarantine rules will be on return, as I can’t wfh.
Quarantining for 5 days there doesn’t really bother us tbh, assuming we can get grocery delivery sorted. Have checked the rules here and it seems doable. Will be out in the sticks with a pool & may go stir crazy, but I’d rather go stir crazy there than in a small flat in the Smoke! Made it to Italy last summer ok & still hoping for the best!
Loveagoodbook · 04/07/2021 21:56
I'm ok with the going there, as (I think) cases are now lower than here, myself and oh have been vaccinated and DD will be 12 the day after we get back!
My worry is it suddenly changing to amber and having to isolate when we get home, as we have a wedding a week later.
I keep swaying between cancelling and waiting it out!
LivingInABuildingSite · 04/07/2021 21:59
We moved out Sicily trip from 2020 to 2021.
Have now moved to 2022.
It maybe that we could’ve gone, but the risks of positive kids and being locked in hotel rooms with all 3 of them put me off!!
Loveagoodbook · 05/07/2021 18:04
I've asked for it to be moved to next year today, I can't be doing with all the stress of possible isolating over there, tests and the chance of it changing to amber when we are over there.
I just want a relaxing holiday, being able to enjoy it without worry.
It's a gamble, but with less than two weeks before we go, I just need to get my head sorted and concentrate on something else
