Anyone hoping to go to Thailand this summer?

Our US trip is looking highly unlikely so we’ve had a hair brained idea to go to Thailand instead (we have a once in lifetime opportunity that both of us have all of the summer holidays off work - Sod’s law it’s this year) From what I can gather Phuket is open from today then Ko Samui and co will be open in a few weeks then the rest of the island over the rest of late summer/autumn. We’re thinking of flying to Phuket first and then over to Ko Samui. I know the weather is not prime holiday season but that’s ok. Just be interested to know if anyone else is planning on a trip to Thailand this summer xx

Urgh actually it’s really difficult finding information out but I’m not actually sure we CAN go as it’s only fully vaccinated or under 6. So families are screwed!!

Thailand has actually been tougher on restrictions than the U.K. FIL lives out there half the year and you have to have permits to leave the area, curfews etc when he want over a couple Of months ago he had to pay to quarantine for 2 weeks even though he has his own house there

August isn’t a great time to go to Thailand as it’s out of season and many things are closed down.

I wouldn't. You need to be fully vaccinated. You need to fly into Phuket, and commit to staying there for 14 days. I think you now also need 3 covid tests. In Phuket itself, most things are still closed (or were, not very long ago). If there is a rise in cases in Phuket now, they will lock down again very quickly. We had also hoped to go this summer, but neither of us are fully vaccinated yet.

My DD & her family live there. Not seen them since Xmas 2019.
There is too many hoops to jump through getting in and coming back to UK. As it is not on the green list I don’t think we would get valid insurance. They are not allowed out of Thailand 🇹🇭 as they are teachers and would likely lose jobs and all the visas/permits they have.
The schools are on holidays so they have arranged some mini breaks.
Skype/WhatsApp is all we have for now.

No chance,

No we had originally a trip booked to Thailand /Malaysia / Borneo in summer 2020 but definitely doesn't look viable this summer. I am hoping situation improves for 2022 but issue is we have kids over 6.

Nope.
Rainy season too so nothing will look great.

donaldbump · 01/07/2021 12:19

Looks like that’s a no then!

If you were looking for rainy season I can recommend the UK. Grin

Watched a video of the 1st arrivals to Phuket and all the mikes& cameras 🎥 thrust in their faces. Would hate that.
Many of the local hotels etc are giving my DDs school special deals so they have a variety of things to do.
Ex pat money can only go so far though.

I’m not planning on going this summer however I am hoping to visit in December if everything goes to plan!

CliftonGreenYork · 05/07/2021 21:21

I've been to Thailand 3 times in August "Rainy Season". Everything was open and the weather was fine and sunny. When it did rain was torrential for 30 mins then sunny the rest of the day.

Leshan · 06/07/2021 03:09

You'll have a lot of pervy old men flooding back to Phuket for their teenage shags.

We were hoping to go to Samui and Ko Phanyan for the summer holidays. We are going to still try. Lots of hoops but I think worth it for 5 weeks there.

You still need to quarantine for 14 days on arrival in Thailand. Friend went out there last week and they are in a quarantine hotel for two weeks
