Misleading press about travel to MALTA

New rules state children from U.K. ( yes, only U.K. ) are to be fully vaccinated to travel to Malta from 4am June 30th. If you were thinking of taking your teens to the ‘green list’ country, DONT!
I am sure it contravenes some act of equality but the message is “we don’t want you” ! At time of writing, no one has picked up this story yet so people are still booking !

People are idiots to be booking anywhere like this at the moment to be honest.

Sirzy · 28/06/2021 09:49

So they have said vaccinated people only. I think that’s fair enough for this summer. Yes children not being able to go is a downside, many adults won’t be able to either as they aren’t double vaccinated yet.

If you plan to travel overseas this year then you need to accept their will be restrictions

BlusteryLake · 28/06/2021 09:52

Any restrictions can change at short notice anyway, so all overseas travel comes with high risk of cancellation /change this summer.

Just to clarify- I’m not trying to h on holiday- I’m trying to get home! Haven’t seen my family in months and wanted to repatriate but my residency has expired thanks to being locked down in U.K.
not asking for any sympathy, trying to make sure people know!

We’ll surely you’d isolate once there? If you’re not planning on having a holiday?

TheresWaldo · 28/06/2021 10:02

You could have always have travelled back if you a resident there.

You’d think so eh? They have told me NO!

I am so sorry you cant visit family.

Its clear Malta want (and usually get) the over 50s or couples market. I had a quick look when it went green and there aren't the family hotels you see in Majorca. The idea then is to say to the over 50s you are safe because we have the highest vaccination rate in Europe and you are vaccinate come and holiday safely. Malta does however let the 11 and under in with adults

Spain have just announced rather wisely for them that they wish the UK to be the same as everyone - vaccinated or PCR tested. Completely appropriate considering they need the family holiday market. (Personally I think it should be PCR test for everyone!)

Portugal has gone 12 and under

The difference I think is Portugal wants families - Spain (Ibiza in particular) wants the 18-30s market so is saying a negative test

Untrue

It has been reported that UK parents of teens effectively can't go to Malta. But it's a rapidly changing situation and what applies this week won't necessarily apply next week or later on in the summer.

I read it over the weekend and also heard it on Simon Calder's podcast - this is a really good way to keep up with things BTW, he does a short one daily on all this sort of stuff.

But I think I should start some sort of news service telling people where they shouldn't go. A few weeks ago we booked for Germany just days before they banned entry to the country by UK citizens and just last week, we booked an October holiday to Malta.

But we're the (not quite) over 50s child free couples market that they still want, but we'll have to see how the rules play out because they say they want a Maltese issued vaccination certificate, which obviously we don't have.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 14:57

Unvaccinated can getbinto Malta they just have to isolate

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 14:58

Ignore me your right you have to be vaccinated to even get in

Portugal is test to get in and isolate if not vaccinated

Spain avoids quarantine with test even if unvaccinated

Nootkah · 05/07/2021 13:26

@Sandfairy69 Not entirely correct. Children 0-11 can travel to Malta with a fully vaccinated adult. Anyone 5-11 will need a negative PCR. It's only teenagers in a hopeless place!

claralara42 · 05/07/2021 15:05

I am sure it contravenes some act of equality

It doesn't.

AnyFucker · 05/07/2021 15:16

The general public are misunderstanding most of this “wahey, these are the green countries we can now holiday in”

Not helped by irresponsible reporting and constant barrage by the holiday companies

It doesn’t matter what Boris says, booking travel at the moment is expensive, risky and absolutely fraught with so many things that can trip you right up

Branleuse · 05/07/2021 15:22

If you are maltese citizen, resident in malta you can go back and quarantine if not vaccinated
