Should I swap Portugal for Majorca?

Have Portugal booked for beginning of august. Had been booked for last year; moved it about 1363 times.

I could theoretically swap it for Majorca just now, still going in August. I’d probably prefer Portugal but also happy with Majorca… although knowing my luck it’ll go back to Amber.

I’m double jabbed, but ds is 14 so obviously not. I start a new job soon so holidays are going to be scarce for a little while although could push back to next year is really like a holiday soon.

Boris can put whatever country he wants on Amber, green whatever but once you leave the UK you'll have to adhere to the rules of the country you're travelling to. There's no guarantee either of those places will allow people from the UK in without quarantine. Am not sure why everyone thinks Boris has the final say Confused.

I don’t recall mentioning Boris…or his final day. Also, fully aware countries can change with very little notice, which, as mentioned in my original post, I’m in this situation. I’ve changed this holiday more times than I can actually remember. But having £3k of “credit” with a holiday company is, rightly so, making my a little nervous at the moment, and I’d rather like to have a holiday that I paid for 18 months ago.

Stick with portugal. Everyone is so good at mask wearing, they wear them walking in the streets. Its lovely being so quiet here compared to normal, might be my favourite trip.

Only really a few hotspots of covid, Lisbon the worst I think as social distancing is so hard with the narrow streets.

I’d like to, but ideally it would
Need to be on the green list as quaratining for DS will be troublesome

Absolutely no one knows what will happen in August, if you cant risk DS quarantining don't travel. It really is that simple, just look at how quickly Portugal changed.

Unfortunately, no one can tell you what the situation will be in another month OP. Majorca is on the green watch list at the moment, so by August it could easily be in the same position as Portugal - or Portugal could be green again. Do you have to make a decision by a certain date? I think I'd hold tight for now, if you can bear it.

Thanks… that’s kinda what I’m thinking. It’s 5 weeks until we are due to go, should be another announcement in 3 weeks?

Am also now considering Malta or Madeira… hopefully things will be a bit clearer re lists and vaccine/quarantine in a few weeks

I wouldn't consider Malta if I were you. This morning they put a notice on their Visit Malta website saying that you have to either be fully vaccinated or under the age of 12 to enter the country. There is no option to get a PCR test in place of vaccination, which means any family with DC aged 12-18, plus anyone not fully vaccinated (which is two doses of vaccine + 14 days), can't go. Simon Calder thinks they will change their minds when they realise the implications of this, but for now I wouldn't be booking Malta. Madeira, OTOH, might be a good bet!

Not sure I'd be confident it'll stay green.
Through having said that we're due to fly to Spain in two weeks for a month and we're determined to go. But we're able to absorb the quarantine/testing requirements if they change.
If you're able to factor in last minute changes without a doubt you should go and enjoy!!

Good spot, thanks: DS is 14 so that’s a no go… thankfully I’m double vaxed.

Think I just need to wait it out and see… urgh
