Questions for US citizens who've travelled UK/US recently

I have a couple of questions that I'm finding it really hard to find answers to, so if you can shed any light it would be very much appreciated.

We're US citizens planning to travel UK-->US in August. DH and I are fully vaccinated, but our DC obviously aren't.

My questions are:

  1. Do we need to do a PCR test within 3-5 days of arrival in the US? Is this mandatory and does anyone check?

  2. I know that vaccinated people don't need to quarantine on arrival, but what about our un-vaccinated DC? Again, is this enforced? The CDC website seems to say it's a 'recommendation', but then further down it says some things are requirements, so which is it?

  3. Bonus question: do you know if we'll be able to get our 13-year-old vaccinated while we're there?

Depends on the state you are flying into. Quarantine rules and regs are at a state level, not federal. Yes you will be able to get a COVID vaccine for your child. At the Rite-Aid in the nearest town to us, for example, it’s “no appointment necessary” and for anyone over 12. They like to see your insurance card if you have one (so that they can claim it back from your insurer) but if you don’t have insurance it doesn’t matter. It’s still available at no charge.

Thanks @BritWifeInUSA. We're going to CA.

That's great that we should be able to get him vaccinated. I mean, we may be able to get him a vaccine before we leave - at least a first dose if it's approved for 12-15 - but if we can't then it's certainly an option to get him done there and will reduce his chance of getting Covid while we're away.

You can go to CVS in CA and get your 13yr old vaccinated. They book in the second dose at the same time for 3 weeks after the first one
